Just Found Out Notebook in Selective Startup Mode-Do I Need to Change?

Samsung Notebook - Series 7 Gamer. I've had some issues after replacing the main HDD with a SSD, and because I moved the Users folder to the D drive instead of the folders within Users, but I did a clean install using the Samsung recovery disk, and then updated everything from their web site and did not mess with the users folder.

A while back, I noticed one program was starting every time, Samsung SSD Magician, but I don't want it to. I learned I could go to MSCONFIG and change that, which I did. I stopped it the from starting every time. I do not think I changed it to selective startup mode. I think I just unchecked the Magician program and then saved.

So I have made some changes like disabling hibernation, turned off indexing, turned off letting Windows install all of their drivers, etc, but all changes were done elsewhere, except changing the Magician startup.

So in reading the help area in System Configuration, it says to use Selective Startup or Diagnostic Startup to diagnose issues and then once the issue is resolved, to go back to "Normal Startup". I'm leery at this point of doing that, because I have had issues and they all seem resolved and I want to start installing games. Thinking along the lines of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

So do I need to change it to Normal Startup, or is selective startup checked for some good reason? All three of the boxes are checked in the Selective Startup area. 1-Load system services. 2-Load startup items. 3-Use Original Boot Configuration.

Is it in selective startup BECAUSE of the changes I made?

I just checked, and my Dell laptop is set to Selective Startup. Why, I don't know - I didn't do it. But everythng works fine so I'm not going to change it. Like you said, if it ain't broke. . . .

You do not need to change it.

Any time you prevent a program from auto-starting in Startup, it automatically sets to Selective Startup. This is not a problem.

'Selective Startup' is a 'custom setting' in 'Windows' that allows you to turn Services and Startup programs 'on/off' individually. This is managed through the 'System Configuration Utility' and is used for better/faster/uninterrupted performance, post 'system restart'.

I also agree with what you stated; if you're not experiencing issues, I don't see any reason why the settings should be altered. You may want to refer to the following 'web article' for more information on 'Selective Startup' and the 'System Configuration Tool': Using System Configuration

As correctly stated by 'pscowboy', this is not a problem.
