Just so I understand why SATA drive

I Just installed a bluray SATA opticale RW drive. And was surprised to see in disk management it appeared as a SCSI drive. Was Just wondering why it would not be listed as SATA? Thanks Fabe

you check device manager to insure a driver is loaded and working?

iI Even made sure in Nvidia control pamel that my video card and cable and LCD were all HDCP capible. Just puzzeled me that's all.

There's no such thing as a "SATA bus" identifier in Windows. Drives will either display as IDE (ATA) or SCSI. Normal behavior.

Also comes down to the driver. In my case with the native Windows driver it lists my drives as SCSI, with the ATI/AMD SATA/AHCI it shows them as SATA drives (I also get temperature and SMART monitoring with the ATI/AMD driver over the native one).

Eric, whats the make of the blue ray, is it ROM?

Thats news to me????
SATA drives are identified in all areas as SATA, if you change the default setting in bios it will bomb out. As a SCSII device you would need the additional host adaptor, I use a SATA opti drive as SATA and its recognised in disk manager as SATA.

@Adrian it's an LG BLRW drive. Now check this out every now and then I boot into my XP drive to update everything and in XP it shows as SATA of course it caused BSOD's and my desktop to change to the white one with the blue triangel. Last time I saw that screen was on ME. Got it sorted out of course I didn't keep any notes on how I went about it cause it upset me OK p***ed me off so I went into freak out mode do this do that. OK.I'm alright blood pressure under control. Fabe

Are they working? Then it is normal.

Depends whether they're running in IDE mode in bios or they are installed as AHCI drives.

If they're in AHCI mode, I'd say they should be showing up as SATA or SCSI in windows. If they're in IDE mode in bios, then yeah that's what they'll show up as in Windows too.
