hi,
just troubleshooting an update issue.
i updated my fujitsu laptop and my custom desktop pc.
after the recent update release i noticed on both my pcs i couldnt open any folders at all.
i did a system restore, and installed each update individually to test the problem update. after alot of troubleshooting i discovered it was kb2454826 causing the issue on both pcs. its 100% obvious . if i install it and reboot , i cant open folders or drives. i system restore and dont uninstall it it works fine.
does anyone know whats going on with this update?
i tried googling the issue didnt find much or anything specific.

error message - "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the folders options control panel."
like i said. i did a fair bit of trouble shooting im 120% sure its kb2454826 causing the issues on both pcs.

Exactly the same problem. I just did what you did and went to the restore point before the update and turned off automatic updates. I've had a look around and tried a few things but I can't find anything that actually works. Please help.

Hello Adya and Dralen, and welcome to Seven Forums.

I've seen this quite a bit today today. Try downloading and merging the Directory and Folder options in the tutorial below. It will restore the default associations for them and hopefully allow you to be able to open folders again after the restart with being able to keep the update installed.

Default File Type Associations - Restore

Hope this helps,
Shawn

This update messed up my system as well. The update failed for me, but now I'm no longer showing any installed updates and checking for updates just hangs forever. System is also very sluggish unless I disable Windows Update in services.

Ran sfc /scannow and get "windows resource could not start the repair service". To make matters totally worse... before I noticed the issues I deleted my restore points before the update.

Here is my CBS log.

Hello!

I bring bad news :( You have a small registry corruption, and a service error, I would think. I will take a look at this tomorrow, unless someone else jumps on it. It needs to wait until the weekend, if that is okay. Again, sincere apologies for the delay,

Richard

EDIT: Just realised. If you post this in your own thread, I will happily help you, but this is adya's thread. Thanks!

This update provides new functionality and performance improvement for the graphics platform.
This update provides performance improvements when you print from XPS-based applications to GDI-based print drivers.
This update resolves some streaming issues that are related to Media Foundation
This is what the update does.

Do a System Restore. Then ignore the update for now. Come back tomorrow and Niemiro may have a solution.

-or-
A possibility. After restore go here and download the update manually. A performance and functionality update for Windows 7 and for Windows Server 2008 R2 is available
50% shot sometimes it works sometimes not.
Third section down under"More Info".

32bit select x86 based.

64bit you got it x64.

If this is a no go or you wish to not try System Restore, then ignore the update until someone else may help or wait on Niemiro.

Also to rid yourself of the update for now.

Control Panel> Windows Update> View Update History.
For those who don't know.

Then in the left picture below click circled in yellow Installed Updates.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/24373-windows-update-uninstall-update.html

Picture on right find the update and highlight. Then click "Uninstall" at top of list just to the left of "Organize."
Done for now. Until Niemiro returns.

-or-

50/50 shot.
Re download and install update.
Best would be direct from MS which I posted above and here again.
A performance and functionality update for Windows 7 and for Windows Server 2008 R2 is available

32bit select x86 based.
64bit you got it x64.

It may work with old one deleted.
This method has worked for several people who had problems with one of the Security updates this past Tuesday.
No guarantees it will work for this update.

Since you mentioned not being able to open files as well, try downloading and merging the exe option in the tutorial below as well to see if it may help.

Default File Type Associations - Restore

If not, then I would also recommend doing a system restore at boot using a restore point dated before you installed the Windows Update. Be sure to turn off automatic updates in Windows Update right afterwards so to not have this update installed automatically again.

encountered the same problem like above. Restore and hide the update file, after that i didn't notice the problem again. I was trying to uninstalled the update but still the problem persisted. Only restore method works on this problem.

Update your video drivers through the manufactures' web site. Then see if KB2454826 will install correctly without causing a BSOD.
