I am attaching a screen shot of the Kernel-PnP Event 219 that suggests that a device driver is failing to load at start up. I have been receiving this message for about three weeks and can't relate it to any particular event on my computer. I have trawled the net and had a look at Device Manager but I can't ascertain which driver is not loading and presumably needs to be updated.

I downloaded some software called "Driver Manager" and that has identified 28 out of date drivers. To correct the problem I have to pay a subscription that I can not really afford. Can someone help me identify which driver is causing the problem please?

Judesman, I don't recommend paying a subscription as you can get the drivers yourself. That seems to be a plug n play device, look ath the user action section in this link Kernel ID 219

Many thanks Dude. I had seen that site but nothing seems to tie up with my Device Manager. There is a "Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator" under System Devices but that doesn't look the same as the item in Event Viewer. I don't really want to update drivers unless I know that it is the right one.

Maxie, I had seen this thread but I don't have a problem with shutdown times and I don't have a device with a reference like the one stated.

I have attached a screen shot of the Device Manager but this does not show the driver details.

Thanks for your help.

Judesman, please post another screenshot of your event viewer, click on the details button instead of general.

The only details tab I can find is in a separate window specific to each component that you get by double clicking that device in Device Manager. I found the attached that seems to be common to Portable Devices G, H, I and J. The second item in the list seems to be similar to the details in Event Viewer.

Looking at your original post you said it started about 3 weeks ago, do a system restore prior to that point.

Unfortunately this problem started on 14 March and System Restore will only allow me to go back to 15 March. I have five Card Readers, including one in the Canon Printer, that seem to use this Driver. I have updated them all but I am told that the Drivers are up to date.

On 13 March I received several Windows Updates, the next morning the problem started! If this was the cause of the problem I would have expected to see similar reports on the net and I haven't found any.

I think it was on the 13 March that I discovered the Disk in my external hard drive had failed and I am wondering if the attached screen shot might indicate the source of the problem. I doubt it.

Something is wrong, on the other hand I haven't as yet identified a problem with the computer and some might say if it ain't broke don't fix it. However I would still like to resolve the problem.

Many thanks for your help.

Try uninstalling, then reinstall the Canon Printer. Is the driver listed in this link the one you use for your card reader? The last one under removable storage is for the card reader.

I have updated the driver for the printer but that hasn't made any difference. I am getting out of my depth now but I am assuming that Portable Devices in Device Manager relates to the different card readers. From the screen shot the drivers for the card readers/Portable Devices seem to tie up with the driver in Event Viewer but it certainly is nothing like the driver on the Dell site. and as the Device is "Working properly" and the driver is up to date I don't want to play around with that really.
