Solved Keyboard and mouse unresponsive after ~30 mins of use

My issue started a couple weeks ago, and it startled me at first because all of the lights on my keyboard started flashing on and off and I could no longer use my mouse and keyboard. My hard drive and my USB headphones still work however.

I noticed that if the issue happens while my devices were connected to USB 2, I could switch to USB 3 and they would work until this issue happens again. I'm not sure if this is relevant.


Also, at times I randomly hear the USB unplug sound.


This issue usually happens when I am playing a game. In fact, I don't think it's happened when I wasn't playing a game, though I may remember it happening when using google chrome. Not sure.


I have deleted my hard drive and reinstalled windows 7, the issue persists.


Does anyone know any steps I can take to ensure this does not happen. I will not spend any money on the fix, as this computer is pretty new and I spent well over a thousand dollars on it.

Do you have, or can you borrow, another KB & mouse? Plug them in and see how it works.

If it's any hardware that came with the machine - what's the warranty status?

i don't have any spares but i have plugged them into a laptop and they worked flawlessly.i built the machine together a little over a year ago, so i doubt i still have any warranty on the parts. the keyboard and mouse however are pretty lightly used, but are a couple years old. it may be a hardware issue, but i find it funny how both devices stop working simultaneously.

i just came back from a coupel hours of not being on my computer, while it was on. they keyboard and mouse worked fine. then they broke. im guessing this problem is from them being used, not from them being plugged in.

edit: I had an old KB/mouse set and they started acting flaky so I replaced them. I changed drivers (update, roll back, none) and nothing helped - so I bit the bullet. Your situation might be different, so before you shell out any money..... but we need your machine information to do any research.

when i get home, i will fill this information out. but for now, a small update. i replaced my keyboard with an older one that we had laying around and the keyboard no longer breaks during use, however, the mouse will lag every once in a while, and though it isn't game-threatening, it has been quite a nuisance for those quick maneuvers that i need to make.

I think you solved this issue yourself in post #8

You stated that replacing the KB solve that issue, but the mouse still lagged. You might have to replace the mouse too. If you're concerned about those quick maneuvers then you should consider a mouse/pointing device better suited to gaming.

i did correct the issue. thank you for your help. i am still at a loss as to how both devices could have failed at the same time. and yes, i do need a gaming mouse. would you happen to have any suggestions?

I have a Gigabyte M6900, it's a brilliant mouse for such a low price point.

Their is a good chance that your older mouse and keyboard did not fail.
They just are not designed to do what your are asking them to do.
You never did post what mouse and keyboard you are using; Why? You have been asked 3 times for this information.

As Layback says: your devices might not have failed.

My Microsoft Desktop Laser 6000 does not work very well on Win7 and MS does not sell it any more.
I've tried various combinations of drivers (individual mouse & KB; desktop pkgs, and Mouse and Keyboard Center). When I look up Windows 7 compatible devices I find: not "compatible" - this is confusing as the driver download page clearly shows a Win7 selection in the drop down box.

I never could resolve the jitters on these devices, so as I mentioned I just bought a new mouse and am waiting for a price break to replace the KB. The desktop set works well on my older XP machine.
