Keyboard/Mouse won't wake up Windows 7 when sleeping

My 32bit gateway tower gt5668e with windows 7 home premium sp1 installed from dell with correct key code was installed when Vista home lost support and I bought to upgrade. My keyboard and mouse are not usb, but ps1/ps2 plug in. I'm not seeing any of these choices listed in "power options". Hibernate is not something I can find anyway to change? And of coarse my win.7 is not waking up out of sleep mode with mouse or keyboard including Esc. For months now I'm having to press power button long enough to force shut down and when it opens I have to hit start and shut down to get it to open at normal speed and access. If I don't open and close and open, the programs are in a time delay mode that is not worth the efforts. Please help me before I F Disc and reinstall win.7?

I had same issue. A BIOS update has fixed it.

My Gateway GT5668E originally had Vista Home 32 bit OS but when Microsoft shut down support last year it all went "sideways" so I purchased a Dell version of Microsoft Windows 7 32 bit Home Premium and installed into my CPU. All was well until about 2 months ago when the waking from sleep mode became impossible and I'm not knowing what to do?? I went to the drivers&downloads (gateway) link but when I filled in the blanks to find Bios updates, It only refers to Vista and doesn't allow it to be filled in or changed to Win.7 ? This problem with sleep mode is impossible and I'm running out of patients with hit and miss info? Is it possible that the Dell version of Windows 7 is my problem as that makes no sense to me? This is unbelievable!

If it always worked well and began to fail, it isn't a new BIOS that will fixed.

My suggestion is to do a Clean install. Yes, it's a hard task and it will take almost a day.
- Backup your data on an external disk.
- Detach ALL other drives leaving on only the disk you want to install on.
- Do a clean install. Clean Install Windows 7 - Windows 7 Help Forums
- Make sure you delete all partitions than create new.
- Install the drivers. Vista drivers are ok.
- Use the offline updates and the security only updates. MS releases SP2 for Windows 7 - Windows 7 Help Forums

This problem is effecting Win 7, 8, and 10 and the only answer is to f disc the computer with Microsoft having no interests in what their products are failing on? I know wiping and a clean install will work but this problem has been going on for 8 years world wide from what I've read and these newer OS (Win. 8, 10) are in full support. I'm looking for a repair as I do have an external drive but it' filled with backups that I can't access and don't want to do this now if an answer is available?
