This has been happening for years, but I never figured out what it is, but now this is the third time in a week, and this time it doesn't go away with a reboot so I want to know exactly what's up.

Every so often, I don't know if it is a hotkey I press or a series of keys, but all of a sudden my keyboard will function differently, as will my mouse. The mouse will act as if the CONTROL button the keyboard is pressed, even when it is not, so the left mouse button acts as a "select" button instead of action, and the keys on the keyboard function as hotkeys for something, some do nothing, others act as if the control button is pushed down always (V for example will "paste", and so on), it is very annoying.

So far, the only way to get rid of it is I go to SERVICES and look for anything that has to do with keys and stop that service, then press control and shift like 10 times each in fury and somehow it returns everything to normal.

Please, any help is appreciated, if I knew what this was I may even have a use for it, but it happens at the worst moments and I panic cuz I never know how long before I will get it back to normal.

(before I wrote this message, it took me 10 mins to get the keyboard back including a few restarts, and naturally I couldn't write this message when it was all screwed up, even if I wanted to use the onscreen keyboard and type with the mouse it wouldn't work because the mouse is also affected)

Thank you.

Can be a defective keyboard or mouse, Try to test with others

But the most serious cause could be malware or a virus.

Run a thorough anti virus scan

Dowload and run a full malwarebytes scan. Update before the scan.

Could it be a "sticky" key?

It's not the keyboard or mouse, this has been happening for years, on other windows versions as well, so I think it is sticky keys or something like that, gestures. How do I control that? Turn it off completely? Or something like that?

Basically, all of a sudden, the keyboard and mouse start acting as if the CONTROL button on the kb was constantly pushed down, held indefinitely. Somehow by romping on the shift and control keys over and over, over time it goes back to normal, but I haven't figured out the exact pattern yet or which of the two is actually responsible for the fix, if not both in some combination.

Uhmm, sticky keys can be turned off by pressing shift 5 times, and ull get a prompt asking if you want to turn sticky keys on/off, go into settings, and untick all the boxes.

Hope this helps.
