LAN connection - Unidentified Network - No Internet

I had a similar problem. All IP settings were normal and suddenly the Network just changed to Unidentified and there was no way to make it work again. I had a static IP, so the DHCP was not the problem.

IT TURNED OUT that the problem was the drivers of the LAN-card integrated to the motherboard. I had this driver:

Realtek RTL8168/8111 Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0)

I changed to this driver:

Realtek RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P) Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.20)

And works perfectly. Just thought I should share this info! I saw someone suggesting some MAC-address changes too, didn't try that one.

Another fix

I have an Atheros AR81xx PCi ethernet controller. The way I fixed this annoying issue was by going to the advanced option of my NIC properties and enabling the 'Shutdown Wake Up' option. This was originally set to disabled.

For those still having trouble I recommend you do the following:

1. Follow Codfishes original post.
2. Run: msconfig
3. Go to services
4. uncheck Bonjour service and apply
5. Restart
6. If there is still a problem
7. Repeat codfish's original post again
8. restart
9. If it works, start conspiracy theory as to why Apple is setting your default gateway to 0.0.0.0
10. If it doesn't - find another solution :)

What i found out i had to do was power down the PC and unplug the power cable for about 30 seconds.
Once i did that and powered back up my network connection worked fine.

This happens about once every 3 months or so.
Seems the network card gets " stuck " and removing all power to it allows it to reset.

Hopefully that helps

Hey, thank you. I was pulling my hair out. A simple fix and it worked like a charm. How in the heck did you figure that one out? Unplug the computer... christ.

Windows 7 Ultimate x64 "unidentified network, no internet access"

Hi Windows Seven forum members,

My friend's computer is a PC desktop with a ASUS M3N78-VM Motherboard with on-board Ethernet card. He had windows XP and the internet stopped working. So, I tried some things on XP like resetting network drivers and repairing the network, etc. Nothing worked. So installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on his PC.

The internet still says "Unidentified Network, No internet Access". I've tried the following to fix it and nothing has brought back the internet yet. If anyone has any suggestions, please comment.

update Network card drivers ( ASUS M3N78-VM motherboard drivers from a website, and specific network card drivers that for NVIDIA nForce Network Adapter)

windows network diagnostics -- error says "Local Area Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration"

ipconfig -all -- says something like Tunnnel adapter isatap -- Media disconnected

went to Network options, right clicked on my LAN network, clicked Configure, Advanced, changed Network Address to a value, from Not present, to a 12 digit alphanumeric value -- didn't make the internet work

reset TCP/IP in cmd prompt:
netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt (said the Global computer reset worked, but didn't make the internet work again)

tried safe mode with networking (no internet still)

Any suggestions other than this would be appreciated.

I haven't yet tried disabling the network adapter and re-enabling it.

Thank you.
