The oldest restore point is two weeks ago. However, I realized that the wired connection has not been working for around a month. My friend also told me that he tried a system restore on my laptop but it still didn't work. Any other solution? Thanks

One of the solutions that you've done - have you tried updating the Ethernet driver to the latest?

Changing the Ethernet cable?

Disabling/enabling the Ethernet from the Device Manager?

Changing the Speed & Duplex setting of the adapter, here's how?

Yes, it is up to date as I uninstalled it reinstalled it from the device manger. It is not the ethernet cable because if I plug it in to my brother's laptop, it works perfectly. I tried disabling and enabling from device manager and changing the Speed & Duplex to 100 mbps full duplex, but it still does not work.

You may try sfc /scannow command and if this didn't resolve your issue you might want to try getting a new ethernet adapter/card.

This is what it says

C:\Windows\System32>sfc /scannow

You must be an administrator running a console session in order to
use the sfc utility.

C:\Windows\System32>

What should I do?

This is what it says. However, the LAN is still not working. I guess I need to change the ethernet card. Do you know how much will it cost approximately to replace it with a new one? Thanks for your help!

You may check the list here from Amazon, please get a gigabit card-see the first one, either PCI/PCIe Card. You may also find a Network Card from your local retail store. There's no need to buy an expensive one.

Please remember that I have only suggested that it might be a bad NIC, make sure that if you'll need to return it for any reasons it's a hassle free return. I always buy from reputable Vendors. :geek:

Hi, so I just went to a service computer this afternoon and when he plugged a LAN cable to my laptop there, it worked perfectly. So I was totally confused of what is wrong with my laptop right now.
I live in a university dorm, so I can't do anything with the university internet. However, I came to my friend's room and used his LAN cable from there, which works perfectly for his laptop, but the problem remains the same for me. Does anyone have any idea? Thanks!

You will need to consult the Uni IT Dept.
