Whilst education certainly did play a part in it, there were many other influences and factors that helped. (desire, natural ability, exposure to a wide range of writing styles etc)

However, like most things in life; there is a trade off- I'm absolutely horrendous at maths

I don't want to sound too much like an old fogey but I do find the occasional bit of bad language offensive. An example is here:
