Laptop dies with 80% charge

Hello,

I am having a serious problem with my laptop (Advent 5301) under Windows 7. A couple of weeks ago the battery in the laptop would continue to make the system operate until it ran it, (obviously). I have started to notice that the computer dies after 80%, but the battery doesn't die as you can turn the computer back on afterwards. So I am wondering, is there a option in the Advance Power Options to disable the computer from automatically shutting it (it doesn't even go through the shut down process, it just terminates), or if I should invest in another battery, this will be the last alternative as the batteries cost £60 :(.

N.B. The laptop works perfectly when plugged in and charges, it's when it is running on battery when this charges.

Thank you for any help,

Right, I've had it running until the battery charge level dropped to 57%. It makes a sound as if it has gone into sleep mode, but instead it cuts out.

Hmmm. In your BIOS, is there an option to calibrate the battery???? If there is, go ahead and run the calibration. Be warned, however, this is a LONG process, as the calibration will completely drain the battery, then recharge it. This may take care of your problem.

Hi there

I suspect the Battery is faulty -- there's a lot of "Logic" built into batteries these days - they are far more than purely "Passive Batteries" which is one reason why they cost more.

You might be able to get a replacement battery if the computer is still under Manufacturer's warranty. Sometimes laptops etc have a 2 year warranty on parts.

Cheers

There isn't a calibration process method in the BIOS, are you aware of any software that does this within the boot? Thanks.

Sorry Edster, no I don't know of any. You can do a google search, that might help. I did a google search for your laptop. Similiar problems were found with other models. Could be a power supply going/gone bad (no, not the charger).
