Laptop freezes immediately on boot up

So my laptop is getting fairly old at this point (5 1/2 years) and earlier today I got a message saying "Windows detected a hard disk problem" And stupidly I didn't heed the warning to back up all my files instead I just continued using my computer as normal and shut it down when I was done.
I tried to boot it up again and now it wont load at all. It gets stuck immediately at the Asus screen which usually only comes on for a couple seconds and then loads Windows. I cannot press F8 to get into Safe Mode. I cannot get into the BIOS screen. I can't do anything at this point with the computer. Does this mean the hard drive failed completely and that's why I can't load Windows? (there were no weird noises coming from the hard drive so that's why I didn't think anything was really wrong with it)
Is there anything I can do to try to fix the hard drive if that is the problem?

If you can hook the drive to another pc and explore it no problem, then it could be just a windows problem and the drive is fine.

If not it`s probably dead.

Reboot and tap the key to enter BIOS setup. Does the hard drive register anywhere there, under Storage, BIOS Boot priority order, etc? If not then try reseating it in its bay to see if you can get it to register. If not, replace it.

You should be able to boot a HD Diagnostic disk to test it, or boot the Win7 disk to access a Command Line in System Recovery Options to run a Disk Check, to see if there's any sign of life or its reparable.

However some time a failed hard drive will block boot. You can test this by removing the hard drive and trying to boot a disk lke the Win7 disk. Report back results for more suggestions.

Good news! Put the drive in my friends laptop and it started booting up windows! Now it's doing a disk check which looks like its probably going to take over an hour (2% done after 2 minutes).

In the meantime, I put my friends hard drive in my computer and it booted up just fine. I'll try putting my hdd back in my computer after it finishes checking in the other comp. Any ideas otherwise tho?

It is very unusual for Win7 to boot on different hardware without first Adjusting Win7 to boot on new hardware with Paragon Adaptive Restore CD.

If it boots on your friend's laptop then test the hard drive with the maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD or Windows scan, followed by a full Disk Check with all boxes checked.

If your HD still won't boot when returned to its PC, then boot into BIOS setup on your PC to reset to defaults, first taking note of the SATA controller setting. Is the hard drive set to boot first in BIOS setup Boot Priority settings? Is this a UEFI BIOS?

Look in your BIOS setup for UEFI, CSM, Legacy BIOS settings, then look in Disk Mgmt on your hard drive for an EFI System partition.
