Laptop goes dead after about 10 min.

This started a couple of days ago. First it crashed after 3 min. Now it is slowly getting longer. I did start in F 12 and managed to do a diagnostic boot. There was nothing found. I can get on line and managed to see some e-mails.
My F2 I cannot use because it is locked with a password I cannot find. Tried everything from ADMIN to DELL to my usual passwords. That is an old problem. My Windows 7 CD is in France and I am in Austria. Please if someone can give me an idea what this problem might be ?
Perhaps she is finally giving up after 6 years of faithful help and support

I am typing this on the laptop of a friend.

Hello thelma sad to see that you had to drop in here.

Well, as with most cases we would need some files to go on, is there a possibility that you could run the DM-collector?
Or get just any recent dump files?

To me it sounds like your laptop battery needs to be replaced, but it needs to be confirmed that the battery really is the cause as I sometimes have been wrong with it.

Please start your laptop and try to follow this tutorial and upload the HTML file using a 3rd party uploader:

After the battery diagnostics report is finished please try to start your laptop with PSU plugged in and the battery removed.

Hello, and thanks very much all for taking time and thoughts over my PC problem. .

I think it is only fair to you, to first buy a new battery ( which was needed anyway). It is now to nerve racking to try to do any analyses within only a few minutes. With it being 6 years old it already takes 2,5 minutes to get on line. Took away all the start-up programmes but one. Now I try to take the passwords out off the way, all that saves time. I am only going on the forum so need no anti spyware active either.

I am typing this on the laptop of a friend, I do visit the forum to quickly see news ( Updates etc. ).

As I mentioned before, thanks for all help and be back soon with new battery fitted, hopefully the problem

Sometimes a laptop gets too hot and suddenly shuts down. Maybe buy and use an usb/ac powered external cooling assembly? I have one for each of my two laptops, one is definitely hotter-running than the other, even though same brand, same class. Ooops, I just noticed this is in the BSOD section, I'm not sure if my comment fits or not. However, heat being an enemy of electronics, having a cooling assembly can't hurt.
