Hello all,
I registered at this awesome website to post my issue, sorry for my bad English
So I Have a laptop named HP Pavilion dm4 Beats Edition, coming with Intel core i5 2450m 2.5 Ghz with integrated Intel HD 3000, 4GB RAM, 500GB HHD, and a dedicated Radeon HD 7470m.
*The issue started yesterday when I was surfing the internet with the Radeon activated ( I use Fixed switchable graphics mode in BIOS) and my laptop suddenly hanged, with the fans spinning so loudly. I force-shutted it via the power button. when I pressed again to restart, it freeze at Windows 7 logo (the flag).
I Tried to format multiple times, with multiple OS (Win 7, 8.1, 10) and install multiple drivers ( from HP, from AMD) with no avail.
I contacted a tech guy and he told me that GPU hanging is a sign of imminent death.
*
However, I'm now writing this topic with the Radeon on, after I let the laptop rest for several hours. and it works fine, didn't test a GPU-heavy application. What could it be? Imminent Radeon death? Overheating?
*
Thanks in advance!
*
*
Edit: About temperatures: Normally the GPU stays at 50 idle ( I mostly switch to Intel Integrated HD when browsing), and 75-80 while gaming ( I underclock the GPU using MSI Afterburner to avoid heat), and CPU 55 idle and 70 under load (limited at 50% of its power to reduce heat too)
*
EDIT2: I player skyrim for half an hour, everything is alright. This is so puzzling!
EDIT3: It crashed again, but I was able to restart with Radeon, using a suboption inside F8 menu (don't know since my windows isnt English) (maybe its "last known good configuration)
EDIT4: Tested it this morning, I can use it for like 15 minutes then it hangs with either AMD driver didn't respond and it recovered, or Nothing at all.

Hello and welcome prazza mate that machine uses Intel HD 3000 graphics and I am assuming it is based on a Radeon series graphics chip. Have you tried downloading the driver for it - Search downloads make sure you pick the correct OS and bit size.

What I don't understand is why you are using the BIOS to set the graphics up it should run fine with the Intel set up. That is because unless I am terribly mistaken that CPU contains the graphics chip http://ark.intel.com/products/53450/Intel-Core-i5-2430M-Processor-3M-Cache-up-to-3_00-GHz

ICIT2LOL,
Thanks for replying to my thread,
Its a switchable graphics laptop. I have an integrated intel HD3000 with another "powerful" card, that is the Radeon HD 7470. I use BIOS to determine if I want to switch between the intel and amd manually via catalyst control center, or Dynamic, as you select each process if it runs on intel or radeon.

I took the laptop to a tech guy, he cleaned its interior and checked thermal paste etc.. but it's still hanging at the radeon card, so it's dead.

Ok must be like my Asus ROG laptop it has dual GPU's I was not sure that they were introduced with the Intel 3000 HD series chips so I suppose it will have to be the Intel as most dedicated GPU chips I have come across are soldered to the board:(

I suppose you could try updating the driver though Downloads for Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000 and I know my 4000 and 5000 series graphics do come with a GUI of a sort that you can control the graphical output to some extent maybe the 3000 does too.
Intel(R) HD Graphics and Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator Drivers
