Hey I use my laptop as an alarm clock, but half the time when I wake up it's muted. Is there anything that could be causing this?

Keep in mind, there's always the chance that I'm half-asleepingly muting it or someone in the house doesn't appreciate the Super Mario Bros theme at 6:00 in the morning.

Have you tried re-installing the sound drivers?

haven't tried, but haven't really needed to. the sound works 99% of the time, except for when i need to wake up.

It might help anyway.

If you want to exclude someone in the house muting it, install some form of key / activity logger to see what's going on while you sleep or while you're away ;)
