hey i recently installed a Samsung spin point 1tb hard-drive in my R610.
the problems started when i left it running on a bench in the kitchen overnight. in the morning i woke up and felt like a game of fear 2. i lifted the screen and found the message "boot from CD ROM....
no operating system found."
i took the laptop to the warranty store. they all found nothing wrong with it. i continued my use of my laptop. it started getting really hot, then the same message after another night on the table.

i eventually compared the two hard drives and found that the spin point draws 5v and 0.85A and the old sea-gate drew 5v and 0.47A could this increase in amps be the cause of this?
Any advice would help!

Have you put your old hard drive back in to see if the fault occurs with that?

It could also be a hard drive fault, that occurs when it gets hot, would certainly explain the boot issue.

An under powered PSU would cause issues when the whole system boots, as everything is drawing power. Is it just at idle when left on over night? Or doing something overly taxing?

usually the only thing it will do overnight may be a scan. high system priority scan at that. i have also recently downloaded a progam that tells the temp of the components. the proccesors remain at a steady 35-40, graphics at 50, the system at 40 and the hard drive at 36. this all changes when i place load on the machine. the processors go to 50 and up, graphics 70 and up, system 68 and constant and hard drive at 40. these are normal load temps for this machine give or take the graphics, but what is worrying me is when i return the system to idle it doesn't shed heat. in fact it gets hotter until the eventual near melting of the bench.
ps thanks for the reply i thought no one had any ideas.:D

The fact it never cools down is worrying.
Does task manager show extreme CPU usage even when at "idle"?

Open up the laptop and see if there is an excessive build up of dust and crud.

Also did your old hard drive have some thermal pads stuck to it? These are often used to separate the HHD sufficiently to stop it conducting added head from various components touching the chassis

the old hard drive is a sea gate 500gb it is basically screwed it started clicking and freezing and was the reason i upgraded. also there is a special shock case that was in my computer it has a old school thermal resistor pad on it so technically yes it did have pads on it.
secondly the CPU is at perfect idle, 2-5% usage. also my machine is still under warranty so opening it up is a bit of an issue.
PS. ive seen your posts around the forum you really know what your doing. rep +. keep it up Badger!:D

Aww thank you :)
I only have forums to thank for my knowledge! So thank yourself for having an issue! Lol I just started reading every post on forums from a young age and it all just stuck.

Thanks again :)
P.s, as long as you have no warranty void stickers you can just open the the RAM and CPU hatches and give it a clean, most manufacturers allow for the upgrade of RAM anyway, so if your lucky you'll have one big panel that houses all the guff, or just send it off to the manufacturer, avoid places of purchase unless they are reputable.. Having said that PC world would fit under that category, but you'll find more computer knowledge in a tin of spam :D (dolphin friendly of course lol)
