Hello

My problem really is as simple as the title of this thread:
'Laptop wont shut down.. just shows the 'shutting down' logo for hours!'

Only way I can 'shut it down' is hold the power button down or pull the battery out !
Any ideas?

Thanks

Just fixed this problem for my laptop. I had some software installed that constantly ran in the background, a forced shut down during the logo would cause the hard-drive to corrupt, I did a mass uninstall and it removed whatever program it was. if you do find the source of this issue, use iobit's uninstaller, it also removes all leftover files a program leaves behind. any system performance boosters, ram monitors, or 3rd party theme changers could be causing an issue for you OP.

IOBit is not advised, there is even a tutorial to remove their products http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/343905-iobit-products-uninstall-completely.html

Agreed, iobits' software is a bit iffy, but they have two programs i can't not use. firstly is the un-deleter, run it and recover everything a computer ever had on it. secondly is the uninstaller, it removes the program and all it's leftovers. Back to OP, try to pinpoint the software not allowing your computer to shut off. life i previously stated, i fixed that problem for me yesterday and it was a 3rd party theme changer i had installed.

I DO NOT recommend using a product/program by IObits.
They don't fix computer systems, they destroy computer systems.

Ok, sounds like IOBITS should be avoided lol
What about Revo uninstaller?

Anyway, good news.. for some reason my computer now shuts down normally.

And bad news... I 'upgraded' to windows 10 today, and my computer has already crashed about 8 times in 4 hours. Plus if I set the desktop displa to 125% magnification, some windows, like skype area bit blurry , as if I dont have a graphics driver installed.

I didn't have these problems with good 'old' reliable windows 7.

My advice is to stick with 7 until they can get windows 10 to at least stop crashing
