Good luck.

now this is the vista 32 bit one. Try to install that. It should work given your specs. Now did it all work correctly under vista? Cos if it didnt then i would be leaning towards a fault.
And im surprised that WU has not detected it and installed its own driver

Well, now everything is better. If anybody has my problem, he has to change the settings to 'notify, but don't download or install'. Check for updates, and then choose to view available updates. There you must choose what you see about graphic cards.

It´s not the 9600m gt drivers:

But it´s better than before:

The only problem is that my graphic card can reach better. In windows vista, the "gaming graphics" was 5,9. But yet I can´t install its drivers. Anybody knows what can I do now?

(I think I am going to try with Windows 7 64 bits now)

Thank you!!! A very lot!!!

  • These are Vista drivers for now. I have not had a problem with the 181.22 versions working in Windows 7, but your experience may vary.
  • If these will not work for you, then you should stick with the Prerelease WDDM 1.1 Driver version from Windows Update.
[/warn]
   Note
For Windows 7 Beta, NVIDIA does recommend to use the drivers from Windows Update instead though. Your choice though. ;)

  • Enables NVIDIA SLI technology on SLI-certified Intel X58-based motherboards with all SLI-certified GPUs.
  • Enables NVIDIA SLI Multi-monitor support, giving you the ability to use two monitors with your GeForce graphics cards in SLI mode. Now you can easily switch between multi-monitor desktop mode and full screen 3D gaming mode. Learn more here.
   Note

Does the WDDM 1.1 Driver from Windows Update support SLI and Multi-monitor? Both of which I have in my new X58-based ASUS P6T Motherboard. 2 EVGA 9800 GT 512MB cards with SLI connector.

Or do I need to use this driver to get the full functionality of my hardware?

Hello Capn, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Yep, the WDDM driver version from Windows Update supports this, but I have had better luck with the Vista drivers. Plus, they detect the OS as Windows 7 when installed anyway.

You might try both of them to see which one works best for you though.

Thanks much for the info, Brink. One more question before I try out the 181 driver. How can I tell if SLI is actually working? DXDiag and the Nvidia console both show the graphics cards seperately and there is no indication that SLI is or is not actually enabled. Should I see some indication somewhere? and where?

btw, DXDiag show DirectX 11 and the Nvidia console shows DirectX 10. Curious.

Capn,

I'm afraid that I have not used SLI yet, so I do not know how to tell if it is using it or not.

The NVIDIA drivers do not support DX11 yet, only DX10. :(

The NVIDIA drivers do not support DX11 yet, only DX10. :(

OK, so that explains that, DX11 is on the machine, but the Nvidia WDDM driver is only able to use DX10 or 9. Thanks.

I suppose I need to try out the 181 Driver as it explicitly says it supports SLI on X58 architecture. I kind of doubt it's really there now, because I can't imagine that it would hide from a user if activated, but would kind of jump in their face to let them know they had this "Great Nvidia" technology available.

If you do, please let us know how well it works with you for it.

Will do. I'll probably install that tomorrow and play with it over the weekend. I spent today replacing the onboard sound card with the X-Fi Elite Pro from the old Vista system. Got tired of fighting with the Realtek driver. Couldn't get it to do 5.1 surround. The X-Fi is working fine with their new Win7 Beta driver, but I'm getting off topic.

Later.

I have tried all the 18X.XX drivers for Windows 7, they simply will not install on my config for some reason, can only use the Windows Update drivers, and in AW I* get some srange graphics issues, Second Life is ok, and Guild Wars is good too. What error message does it display when you try to install the drivers?

(And Second Life plays a lot better on Windows 7 than on Vista :p)

I have the latest 181.22 and more, I save them all and the ones recently are the X64 ones. Really is weird too, since they kinda worked, but then SL complained that there was no graphic driver installed, thats when I found a issue, so looked on nVidia's site and found that needed the Windows Update one. My card is an XFX nVidia GeForce 8800 GTS 640 Extreme. Of which they do not make anymore. One day I will get a GX 2 or something, and a new LCD with DVI not Analog. The Message says "Not for this Operating System" and its the Vista 64 Driver too

Well, I installed the 181 driver Saturday morning and have been using it without any glitches all weekend. Once it was installed and the system rebooted, a bubble from the task bar said SLI mode available - click here or something similar. I was then taken to the Nvidia console where there was a new option to enable SLI mode as well as the Phys-X engine.

I selected enable for SLI (PhysX was already enabled by default) and after the screeen flashed a few times I had the familiar countdown dialog asking if I wanted to keep the current settings or let it revert back by doing nothing.

The system seems snappier and the graphics screens in my game seem to load quicker, but I don't have any hard timings to prove this. I haven't really taxed the graphics cards thus far. I've run my favorite game (Civilization IV - Beyond the Sword) extensively with no problems. It runs full screen at 1920x1080 resolution in High Resolution mode.

I have an ASUS P6T X58 MB with an i7 processor, 6GB DDR3 Memory, 2 EVGA 9800 GT 512MB Graphics Cards, 2 Acer Monitors one 1920x1080 with HDMI input (DVI-HDMI cable) and the other 1680x1050 DVI input. Both monitors are supported and the desktop spans both. There is also a Blue-Ray/HD-DVD combo drive installed and an X-Fi Elite Pro Sound Card.

I need to test some other games with the new drivers and play a blue-ray DVD in full screen on the 1080P monitor, but so far everything is working great.
