Latest Version of Adobe Flash Player

The "Square" flash player Preview 3 version is 10.3.162.28 for both, not 10.2.161.23. Release date is November 30th.

You will notice your installed program version will be 10.3.162.28 in Windows' "Programs and Features" for both the plug-in and the Active-X control. However, this Adobe page may indicate differently for the plug-in. Don't worry, you are updated.

Reminder: The Adobe page referenced above will show different versions for the plug-in and the Active-X control. The plug-in will be reported as 10.2.161.23. The active-X control will be reported as the version Airbot mentions above. Windows will indicate each as the version Airbot mentions above. The Adobe download page does not mention a specific version number other than "Preview 3".

With all due respect, Airbot, tell that to Adobe. I'm just trying to alleviate potential queries from those using the plug-in, as opposed to the Active-X control, who might wonder why Adobe is reporting their version as different from what might be expected.

I pondered a while regarding your statement above. As I mentioned previously, I have a great deal of respect for you so I dug a little deeper. I began to wonder if my results on the Adobe page were, indeed, incorrect as you stated.

I uninstalled all Adobe Flash installations (the latest 32 bit and the latest 64 bit Preview 3 Active-X controls and plug-ins) and performed a fresh install.

The Adobe page I referenced earlier now indicates the correct version commensurate with the Windows reporting version of 10.3.162.28.

How do we test the hardware acceleration with Firefox? Also, do we need to have Firefox beta 4 and IE 9 beta in order to get the acceleration? I am not currently using either of these beta browsers, just the latest stable versions.

I tested Megavideo in Firefox 3.6.12 and my cpu usage actually increased by 15% from around 21% to 36% with the same video. My video card is an ATI 4350 512mb that does support this hardware acceleration. My cpu is a little aged but is an Intel Dual 1.63ghz, so I do have the dual core capabilities.

Also the test was done with Flash player 10.2.161.23 beta 2 vs. the stable 10.1.102.64. I will test 10.3.162.28 (or whatever they are releasing from the Labs page now) while I wait for an answer.

You just have the hardware acceleration checked from Firefox's Options/Advanced/General, and from IE9's Tools/Internet Options/Advanced. And yes, those versions have the HA, not the stable ones yet.

3.6.12 is a stable version. And fyi, it's been updated to 3.6.13 today.

For testing hardware acceleration I like going to this page and seeing the results I get.

I have tried running different versions of Firefox and Chrome at this site and Firefox 4 64 bit (Minefield) is the fastest for me. I have not tried IE9 yet.

Hi, Commodore Pet. You'll, more than likely, find IE9 x64 trounces FF 4 x64 on the FishIE test along with several of the other MS tests, especially the "Speed Reading" test.

The actual numbers from the JavaScript engines have become so close as of late the only real difference is bragging rights. Hardware Acceleration is still largely dependent on, well, hardware.

I find FF x64 to plenty fast for my day to day browsing. I watch streamed video with no issues. The benchmark tests on the MS IE site really don't matter to me as FF presents a faster day to day experience for me. I'll leave all of the benchmarking to the devs. After all, they're the only ones that can do anything about it. In the meantime, I'll stick to what works best for me (FF x64).

I was beginning to wonder when I saw THIS:

I HAVE 10.2.161.23.
The Adobe website said that the current version is 10.1.102.64.
Did I have a version that doesn't exist yet?

Good thing I checked here, and remembered participating in testing when I installed...

So, as of Jan 16, what's the current version? Is the website right?

Far as I know, the only current versions out there for Windows are the stable 32 bit browser only 10.1.102.64 version. The 32 bit browser only 10.2.152.14 Release Candidate version that just came out, and the 64 bit browser only 10.3.162.28 "Square" Preview 3 version.

The 10.2.161.23 version is a "Square" beta from back in September, Preview 2.

I remember it well, Airbot. I made the mistake of not uninstalling it before I installed Preview 3 thereby indicating an incorrect version for me. Thanks for straightening me out back then, Airbot!
