A lot of folks have been posting in the Adobe Flash Community Forum that the latest 10.3 release is not positioning flash content correctly. If you visit a website that has flash content, it will play in the upper left corner of the screen and block access to the Internet Explorer menu bar, the Sign Out link in Yahoo Mail, or anything else that would normally be in the upper left corner.

A moderator on the Adobe Flash Community Forum blamed everything from bad video cards to failure to enable hardware acceleration to failure to disable hardware acceleration to using Internet Explorer instead of Chrome browser. So far it appears that Adobe has failed to take ownership of any problems with the 10.3 release.

If anyone has downloaded 10.3 and is experiencing flash content positioning problems or any other issues, you can uninstall 10.3 using the official Adobe Uninstaller. Reboot. Then reinstall the last good version 10.2.159.1 from the Adobe Archives. This will be a zip file. You'll want to use the flashplayer_win file if you need the plug-in or the flashplayer_winax file for the standard ActiveX install.

Users can now clear local storage—sometimes known as "Flash cookies"—on versions of Chrome, Internet Explorer, and Firefox. "Cookies" are little bits of data collected about your Internet activity. They can be useful—like remembering passwords and settings on sites that you surf to frequently—but there are also concerns about targeted advertising and how much data is really collected.

Sounds good for those of you who are privacy minded. Hopefully there's some bug fixes and what not hidden away in there too, so if you have Flash, upgrade.

To those who have downloaded 10.3 and are having problems if you click Tools (i.e. the gear icon), click on Internet Options-Advanced and then check the box for "Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering", then close IE9 and re-open, matters are considerably improved. Its' not perfect (you will find if you open embedded flash content to full-screen mode and then go back to the web page (i.e. hit Esc) there are misalignment issues. However it makes web browsing in IE9 tolerable until Adobe get this fixed.

Very dissapointing that this was rolled out with so many inherent problems.

I am one of the ones affected by the bugs in the latest update with flash content displaying in the upper left part of the screen when using IE 9. I have read the work around but I think I will wait for a hotfix which I believe Adobe is working on.



With Flash Player 10.3, reports indicate that systems with Intel HD Graphics adapters running Internet Explorer 9 are the only systems impacted by this particular bug.

Issue

When viewing SWF content in Internet Explorer 9 with Flash Player 10.3.181.14 installed, the SWF content will only be displayed in the upper left corner of the screen. The reports for Flash Player 10.3 indicate that systems with Intel HD Graphics adapters running Internet Explorer 9 are the systems being impacted by this particular bug.

Updated May 24, 2011: A pre-release build of Flash Player to address this issue is now available for testing. See Solution #3 below for details.
Solution #1

On some systems, you may be able to resolve this issue by updating the Intel HD Graphics drivers. It has been reported that driver versions 8.15.10.2361 and above do not exhibit this bug. Unfortunately, some systems might require updates directly from your system manufacturer. We’re working with system manufacturers to make sure they include the latest drivers in future releases.
Solution #2

You can disable hardware acceleration in Internet Explorer 9 using the instructions on this page. Please note that you should re-enable hardware acceleration once this problem has been resolved to enjoy the full benefits of hardware acceleration.

Might make a note in the first post that only the IE (ActiveX) is updated to .16, (to fix the IE9/Intel graphics bug) and not the Plugin version for other browsers, like Corrine stated. Plugin version was left at .14.

Could be confusing to some.

I can confirm that Adobe will make 64-bit support in Flash Player "Square" available in a shipping release of Flash Player later this year.
