I just ran a custom scan of C with and then without scanning for rootkits. The rootkit scan requires checking a checkbox and just about doubled the total scan time--24 minutes without and 46 minutes with.

It seems to operate OK, but the new interface doesn't particularly appeal to me.

The new subscription model of $24.95 per year definitely wouldn't appeal to me, but I'm exempt due to having the lifetime license of the old "Pro" product. I'm not sure I'd pay $25 a year, being the tightwad that I am.

Well I like the new Malwarebytes because it does more.
It will take a little getting use to like most things except W8. I can't drink enough to use to W8.

I have always had a great respect for Malwarebytes, I started using it when Comodo BoClean ended as a single application a few years ago, I do prefer the new UI although it does look a bit kiddish and to big (you can resize via dragging but at its smallest its still looks big on a W/S Monitor) but then we are not looking at the UI all day so all in all Malwarebytes is still my No1 second opinion

Seems all the scans are pretty quick ?
I'll have to monitor a bit,
Threat scan 8 minutes
Hyper scan 3 minutes
Even with rootkit checked it was only 11 minutes ?
I've never been a fan of the quick scanner especially if MABM was already installed and never minded the full scan which seems to be a bit Un-named at this point and it was pretty clear cut in the previous version = quick scan Full scan,

Quick Scan --> Threat Scan
We want this to be the primary scan that users choose because in almost all cases in catches all malware that a "Full Scan" would in less time. It scans for threats in all of the locations that malware likes to hide on your system, and ignoring places that it doesn't.

Flash Scan --> Hyper Scan
This was renamed because with the word "flash", it can be implied that this scan will search flash memory devices such as flash drives/thumbsticks, which it does not. This type of scan primarily searches for malicious processes that are currently running in memory. Because it takes less time to perform than a Threat Scan, we decided that "Hyper Scan" would be appropriate.

Full Scan --> Custom Scan
A custom scan can be used to perform a full scan, that is, scanning every file and folder on every drive connected to the system. However, that's not its only function. The user can also simply select a few specific directories that s/he's concerned about instead of simply scanning everything. We've redefined this type of scan to account for this use.

Although has anyone minimized the scanner during a scan ?
Darn thing disappears from the taskbar
That's not how it used to function it pretty much acted like any program minimized until the scanner finished and popped up the scan results ?
Very weird to me but must be a win-8 quirk that minimizes to the desktop shortcut ?
Where would it minimize it the desktop shortcut was removed
More testing needed.

Yeah, I noticed the disappearance thing on Win 7 also. I was expecting it to be on the taskbar, but I had to go into the system tray and poke the icon there to get it back to full screen.

Don't know, but I'd have to assume that is a deliberate decision, not a bug.

Hmmmm.....if you start a scan and then minimize it to the system tray, when the scan finishes, you do not get any pop-up notification of the results.

You have to go back to the system tray and maximize the app, which then says no threats found.

I don't know, but it's possible that if threats were found, you would get a pop-up.

Isn't that different than the earlier version?

Yes very different,
Even a clean scan would produce a scan report popup after it finished and then you close/ exit the program,
I'm guessing this is where emphasis was put in working in the background ?

I'm back on 1.75... version,
2.0 froze after 2 hours I killed it in task manager,
Used system restore no joy had to use a extended download link to get the previous version back,
Not a great experience with 2.0 but lets here it for Extended download purchase

The minimize and the close buttons in the upper right corner of the window do the same thing in V 2.0.

If you are running a scan and minimize it then double click the icon it will reopen right where you left off as the scan continues in the background. In earlier Beta versions there would be "green notifications" popups when the scan completed with nothing found but testers complained so all the "green notifications" were turned off until a future update to give the user control on all notification. If the scan finds something you should get a "red notification" . More refinements are being worked on for future updates.

I just download mbam setup exe's and save them on a HD.
Then run it to do the installation.

There have been reports with scans freezing when running a Custom full scan with rootkits enabled. Runs fine with rootkits disabled. Hyper and Threat scans work fine with rootkits enabled.

No not the current version the download link mamb provided 15+- months ago part of the extended download not free,
The version I forget what it was but immediately prompts for updating if running it,
The actual download link doesn't expire until 11/2/14 so it's good for two years after purchase,

1.75.0.1300 is the latest V1 version (before the new MBAM 2.0).
2.0.0.1000 is the new V2 version.

You can download Older versions from FileHippo if you ever need them.
