I can understand not wanting to have to pay year after year for a product (if I didn't have lifetime licenses for MBAM, now Mawarebytes, that have been grandfathered, I wouldn't use it either) but I question the wisdom of using a Russian based AV in these times when has been hacking into various Governments. Sure, Kaspersky has claimed that they do not have a backdoor for the Russian Government and never will but the Russian Government is bigger than Kaspersky and is not above bribing (everyone has a price) or forcing Kaspersky to put one in (the Russians could also hack their way in or issue phony definitions) and claim it isn't there.

It's also possible for the SSA (Squabbling States of America) to do the same but, as repugnant as that would be, I would rather have the SSA accessing my data than a known enemy.

Considering how many buggy new versions Malwarebytes has been coming out with lately, methinks I will wait a while until a well tested version comes out before updating.

Why not? Ever since 2.0 first came out, Malwarebytes updates have frequently been as buggy as a flophouse bed. It's been less than a handful of weeks since the definitions update that bricked many to most computers using it. I still have problems with the malware protection module dropping out from time to time after a reboot and the only way to get it back is to close Malwarebytes, then restart it. I get frequent false positives on perfectly harmless programs (FreeFileSync's installation file being the worst). It's not surprising since Malwarebytes has become feature bloated (remember Nero, how many people use it now?). The only reason I still bother with it is I have four lifetime licenses. The day they drop honoring them, it's coming off my computers.

I don't know whether it is still blocked but the FFS site was blocked in December. I had to add an exclusion.

It still is; I had to do the same (it's a frequent complaint on the FFS forums). Also, when running a scan, I have Malwarebytes set to merely alert me about PUPs instead of treating them as malware. The vast majority of PUPs are actually harmless as long as one doesn't blindly click before reading.

The Malwarebytes folks still haven't got the memo about FFS. They feel any program installation file (and any website that supports the program) is malware if it uses software that uses a subprogram (referred to as a PUP, Potentially Unwanted Program), such as Open Candy, to offer additional programs during installation, even if users can opt out of them.

CCleaner seems to switch between offering Avast and Chrome.

I wouldn't know. I used to only CCleaner only for wiping HDDs and I would uninstall it after using it since it acted too much like a virus. Since I don't use HDDs anymore, I no longer use CCleaner, period.
