There are also programs that will pull the Office key, like Magic Jellybean, but I would still check if you are allowed to use that license.

You don't boot the OS. You boot from the DVD/CD.

I spoke to my colleague just now and he told me that he contacted them on Friday (he's also under this Group Policy restrictions). They told him that they won't help with easing the restrictions but that he's welcome to do whatever he wants. So, I will go back to my original plan and try to reset the admin password.

So, did they explain why they won't ease the restrictions on the machine, and compound on whether or not it was technically your property? The legalities of this entire situation have me a bit uneasy.
