Left Click not working

I have an HP Pavilion laptop running windows 7 x64. Today my left click button on the touchpad completely stopped working. I have tried to restore back to when it worked and still the problem persists. Any ideas would be wonderful. Thanks and happy holidays to everyone.

If you mean the BUTTON to the left of the pad, rather than a double-click action on the pad itself, you MIGHT have a defective switch under the button.

i mean the left button just below the pad, the right one works fine and now all of the sudden the left one does not

ah, then the most likely culprit is the switch, rather than software issues.

plugged in a mouse...however it was a wireless mouse with usb opical...and the left clicked worked just fine.
does that mean hardware?.
