Lexmark C500 colour laser printer

he is correct. XP mode will send the print job to Win 7 through a virtual port then Win 7 will print the file.
So there needs to be a driver for Win 7.
I have the same issue with my Kodak 8500 Dye Sub Printer.

Scenario 3: Print from a virtual machine

There are several methods you can use to make a printer available to a virtual machine. The methods you can use are affected by whether a printer driver is available for Windows 7 and whether the printer is a local USB printer or a network printer. You also can use the XPS format when your computer is configured to support this method of printing. This scenario describes all of these methods.

Thanks Zepher for your insight and the link to technet. The question is how did you overcome the issue with your Kodak 8500 Dye Sub Printer?

I guess printing from my old laptop is one solution where I can do my work on my new laptop and when I have to print something, I can simply copy the document to my old laptop over my network, and print the document from old computer which is a pain.

I will probably bite the bullet and purchase a new printer that is XP & Win 7 compatible and this time, get one that is wireless so that I can be on both laptops and be able to print from either one of them.

A have a call into a local company specializing in printers (called Printer Doctor) to have their tech call me today. I'll see what he or she has to say and update this log.

Printer driver update: I just got off the phone with Lexmark support. Tech took over my laptop and installed the Vista +64 driver and guess what? IT FINALLY WORKED!!!!

I won't have to go out and buy a new printer after all.

Tech said the Vista driver is the one they use when compatibility with Win 7 is a problem. I am now a happy camper.

A big thanks to everyone who helped. Seeing that I am new user of Win 7 and have a lot to learn, you will see a lot more posts either soliciting your vast knowledge of Win 7 or offering my opinions.

I gave you the link to that driver a while ago... didnt you try it? Oh well, glad it's solved.

BTW... did you watch the tech perform the install, and did he install it in Vista Compatability mode with a right click?

I had downloaded and installed it but looks as though I had installed it the wrong way.

I believe the tech did in Vista compatibility mode. She (tech) took control of my laptop, removed the driver that I had installed incorrectly, downloaded a new one, installed it and it worked. I was so stressed out last night that I was at the point where I didn't care what had to be done - I just wanted the damn thing to work. Now I can have a stress free weekend.

After, I went downstairs to our rec room and tried to tell my wife that my printer problem had been resolved. She simply looked up and told me to be quiet as she was either watching Oprah or Dr. Oz - go figure!

Win7 64bit C500 printer driver

Digging up an older thread. 1st timer post.

I have faced this same issue. Lexmark do not provide 64 bit win drivers for the C500. I asked them and they said "nada"! ...for a 4 year old printer! I'll let you make your own mind up on that issue.

I have a feeling they (Lexmark) once did have X64 drivers but they have removed them.

However, you can get Vista X64 drivers that work from here as well as a few other places on the net.

Maybe someone else, in the future, will face the same issues I did and this will help as there is little out there on the net on this!

Win7 64bit C500 printer driver

My printer driver problem was resolved last month.

After calling the Lexmark support desk several times and always being transferred to someone who kept on telling me that the only solution to my problem was to purchase a new Lexmark printer which was not acceptable.

Anyway, I got hold of a young Lexmark support person who said the workaround was to install a Vista 64bit driver which worked in 90% of all cases. I advised her that I had found the driver, installed it but still did not work. She took over my laptop and said the driver was the wrong one and had not been installed correctly. She installed the driver and instructed me to try printing something. The printer came alive but nothing printed - I corrected the problem - it was trying to print on A4 size paper - I changed it to standar 8x10 and it worked. No need to purchase a new printer.

Moral of the story is get a second opinion!

Thanks.

Problem is the vista X64 bit drivers are not available from the Lexmark site. I found them on the net after a tedious search.

Poor form lexmark!

Well, you did help me. :)

I was close to thinking about filling my C500n with explosives and then send it back to Lexmark when I finally found this thread. Major thanks to all participants and especially to you, for providing the link!
