LG DVD drive not working after Windows 7 installation

Hi guys,
My dvd drive was working till the installation dvd was booted. After that once win7 started, I tried putting many dvd's in but they all say "Please insert a disk in Drive d:" and tray opens up.

Try this:
Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs
Your CD or DVD drive can't read or write media
The CD drive or the DVD drive does not work as expected on a computer that you upgraded to Windows Vista

I clicked the "Your CD or DVD drive can't read or write media" option and downloaded the Mr.Fixit.
However running the tests couldnt solve the problem as it said the same thing "Cannot read the disc" and the drive opens up. The dvd contains data and has been read on other system so I know there is something wrong with my dvd drive.
Please help

For trobleshooting purposes suggest you don't use a home made disk- use a movie or another factory disk.

If you wind up doing regedit then there are numerous key that look similar-

this-
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} the red numbers are the ones to identify the correct item to edit- (just helping to clarify as there is a lot of them and can take a bit to spot the difference between them due to the volume of charcacters)

If the disc is 'for some unknown reason' not compatitable with your reader then put the files on a usb card reader on the other computer-

You can also got to start/control panel/device manager- then find cdrom drive- uninstall it and re-boot the computer- doesnt work all that often but sometimes things just dont load right-

hey i itried with diff types of dvds..it says please insert disc in D:
i tried all the options though i thout know wat this regedit procedure is..
any details would b helpful

nevermind..i managed to browse thru the regedit to that particular entry howver "upperfield" doesnt exist..wat do i do?

upperfilter i meant...shud i just delete lowerfilter?

yes- If I understand it correctly a program installed these filters and when you uninstalled the program it leaves these fragments- thats why the guide has them and ok to delete- (could be wrong here but sometimes this kind of info varies according to the path you used to obtain it..sad but there you go-

If the above rings a bell and you uninstalled programs before noticing drive failure then reinstall the program(s) - test the drives- re-uninstall-- some programs might uninstall better with third party software- goole how to remove it if you have problem again-

This happened to me once with a 'clean' install including manufacturers bloatware- first step for me is always to get rid of programs i am certain I dont want like all friggin four dvd players they seem to come with.........grrrrr....

I did the clean format and I dont have any such bloatware.. I'm afraid to just delete the lowerfilter value as no upperfilter is there...im scared it might corrupt the registry..
let me know if my fear is justified or not..

Just backup the registry first.

Open regedit, go to File>Export and save a copy of the system registry before you make any changes.

If you later need to go back to how things were you'll need File>Import.

You might also want to go LG's support site and see if there is a firmware update for your optical drive. If there is, download and install it.

deleted lower filters yet it doesnt read any dvd...
What should I do now?

Have a look in Device Manager to see if it is listed there under DVD/CD-ROM Drives.

If it is try updating the drivers.

updated the firmware to TN02...nothing..
then to TN03..still nothing..
