Lightning storm troubles

Well I was shutting down my computer due to a toronado was in my area and a strong power surge or something happened and my computer kinda went crazy after. Went i loaded it back up the colors are washed out and went i boot it usually show the logo in red it is washed out. I can't figure out what the problem is. I have two vga cables i tried both and still the same result is it my video card or both vga cables bad. I'm so depressed now right before i started going back to school too.

It could be the Video card or the monitor. What is the make & model of them ?

Intel graphics media accelerator and the montior is a hp 1707 and i have a split-er hooked up on to my tv as well. I'm hoping it is the cable T.T i can't afford a new card and thank you.

Is it red & washed out on the TV also ? Are you confident enough to shut the computer down, remove the video card and reseat it. Then power back up to see what it does.

I can't tell where the video card is i opened it earlier it is like that on the tv is well i think the video card is integrated. Everything was fine before the lighting storm.

Is the VGA port located similar to this pic and not vertical in relation to a MB slot?

If it is located in this cluster type config it is integrated into the MB.

What is the make & model of the desktop ?

Yes the vga is like that. Screenshot by Lightshot I think this is the a picture of the motherboard i'm gonna open up the computer and try to re seat it. Compaq Presario SR5410F Desktop

If that is the MB & the VGA is horizontal, it is integrated & you can NOT reseat it.

Intel graphics media accelerator is an integrated graphics processor (IGP).
You can't re-seat it, as it's built into the motherboard.
Can you test with a different monitor, and/or borrow a GPU (video card) that you can test with?

Normally a lightening hit will take out whatever voltage is came in on.
Of course it took the Strike a mile or five to get to your PC. You cannot tell what its gonna do.
You might find a bundle of loose Krispy Kritters in the bottom.
If you see damage, you will just have to trouble shoot it with known good parts to swap.
The Condition wont get worse.

I was unhooking my Satellite cable when I got hit. It was a Shocker too!
For as long as we've lived in the South, I've unplugged EVERYTHING when the Light shows come over us.
You cannot trust lightening arresters. Not even the expensive MOV absorbers.

Dang i guess i'm out of luck i can't get the colors display right red won't show and most of it looks washed out. I gotta save up for a new video card then. Thanks for the help.

Probably the best you can do is try a cheap used PCI-e video card in the slot I have circled

Do you have anything besides VGA for a connection? Possibly DVI? If so, borrow a DVI cable and try that.

I also think it's most likely the IGP got fried and needs a replacement.
If it was me I'd test the monitor on another PC, and/or test a different monitor on this PC.
It'd be a bummer to buy a GPU and then find out it's a monitor problem...
