I just installed windows 7 this morning and thought that it would be best to get the internet running first thing then start putting on all the programs that I would like to have. While running the linksys wireless usb adapter the setup will recognize that the adapter is inserted into the computer in multiple different usb ports but will not finish the install once inserted. Is this a known windows 7 bug or am I doing something wrong wih the installation?

If you would like more information just ask and I would be more than happy to provide it. Any help is very much appreciated.

What is the adapter model? Are you running the setup from the disk? Really, Widows should have this driver by default and installing it from the disk may interfere with Windows drivers. Have you tried the latest from the we?

I've gotten it working

I got it working now after making a lengthy call to linksys tech support and telling them that I'm running vista 64 bit (they don't support windows 7 yet I don't believe)

I'll run through what I had to do in case anyone else encounters the same problem.

Open up device manager and find out which device is the USB adapter (Mine was not listed under network adapters like it should have been but a quick unplug and replug showed which item it was on the list)

right-click it, then go to update driver software
choose "Browse my computer for driver software"
Choose "let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
Choose "Compact wireless-G network adapter" (in my case it was word for word of the description on the box for the adapter so if yours is different choose the closest one to the box description of your item IMO)
choose next, let it install, then from there just connect to your wireless network.

My specific device model is WUSB54GC

Hope this might help someone else in the future

:)Thanks, Darksky72688. I had the same problem and Linksys said they don't have a driver for this device since Windows 7 is not yet released. I followed your suggestions a little differently but did get my WUSB54GC to work. When browsing for software to update my driver, I had to direct to the installation CD which did work.

Now I can put my 50 foot CAT5 cable away. Thanks again!

linksys usb adaptor fails to install

Wow, thank you, thank you!

Had the same problem using the Linksys USB600N. As Ahough did, via Device manager, updated driver software. Directed it to the install cd, and poof, I have internet access!!!!!!!!!

This is the fastest search, find, and fix I have found to date on any forum of any problem (I've accessed anyways!) I am humbly grateful.

Now if it would be that easy to get all the other, late-to-the-party, io devices and their lame drivers to work. Though I surmise it would require an act of God. Oh well, off to work on it, I go.

But for now, I'm doin' the happy dance:party:!!
