Advice needed on Windows Live Mail

I have a question regarding the search results one gets. Part of it stems from difficulties encountered when transitioning from (Vista) Windows Mail to 7 Windows Live Mail. Parts of some folders got imported twice.

So when I do a search on a term (say "pillow") it cumulatively shows results in account A and account B, but not the actual folder that the message resides. That is to say that account A has folders 1,2,3, etc. and folder B has 4,5,6.

Is there an additional setting or add-on that would help to display where the actual message is located. If it is in the current settings, then I am totally missing it.

"Parts of some folders"=emails? If so, they actually reside in the folders within WLM where you see them. Just delete the the unwanted duplicates. (Although there really shouldn't be duplicates in the first place.) I assume you're not interested in the location within Window Explorer, but maybe I misunderstood.

Indeed-misunderstood.

For clarification of "parts"...(in select cases), we'll say that 200 of 300 e-mails copied a second time. On top of that, it is inconsistent as to whether account A (folder 1) has more than corresponding account B (folder x).

As for the search result, when I click on the message, WLM fails to display which actual folder I am reading. And with a structure of more than 30+ folders (I attempt to archive a good number of matters as they relate to different organizational activities), in one account alone and this is frustrating. For work I use a different e-mail platform in an entirely different operating system and it is so simple and organized making me wonder why Microsoft opted to take the path they did.

Re: Search. You're right. When you use the "find message" feature it works something like previous versions of their email program in that you must first select a "top level" folder and choose "include sub folders". In previous versions the top level was "Local Folders" and since all accounts were included, you could search everywhere at once. Now, the highest level is either a single account or the "storage folders" group. Perhaps what you want to do is move ALL your messages to "storage folders", then search that top level folder. (Be sure to add the column "Account".) That will tell you which WLM account downloaded each message. But I'm skeptical if that will work for imported messages since WLM did not download any of them. In other works the account that appears to be associated with them in, say, Outlook Express, is just OE telling you where OE got them from within the OE program. After you move the messages (w/o any account association) over to WLM, WLM thinks they all came from the same place ("imported messages") and does not associate them with any of its own accounts. I suspect this same problem would happen moving old emails from OE on one computer to another one also running OE.

To associate imported messages with the same account they were originally downloaded from you would have to go back to the original OE program with all its downloaded emails, use its find feature to sort by account, then move all emails from the same account into a special folder within the original OE program. Then importing will maintain that Account-by-folder association and after importing you could then move them in to the correct account within WLM. But since WLM did not download them itself the account column will still be blank for imported messages but the "To" column will at least show the email address it was sent to.
