I have been using WLMM 2011 for weeks. I have had no problem until today when I got a new SSD and did a clean install of Windows. My camera shoots in 720P and creates .MOV files. They work fine. I have used WLMM for about 9 months now and 2011 for about 4 weeks.

I made one video from multiple clips with no issues. I was editing another video from many clips for YT when all of the sudden one of them just said it was a file it does not recognize....fine.....I shot another, and another....switched SD card, then cameras. Same thing. I then restarted WLMM, then Windows. Un-installed WLMM and installed it again. Same thing. The clips will not import sometimes. They WILL other times but when I try to "clip" them or use only portions of the clip....WLMM will tell me it cannot recognize it. They ALL play fine in WMP and QuickTime players....it seems to be an issue with WLMM.

There are not many options with WLMM since they went to the ribbon interface. I have already tried un-installing it and re-installing it. Has anyone run into this issue? The program says on MS site it supports .MOV files, and the files are not corrupted. They play fine on multiple players. It is only after the clean install of Windows 7 Pro x64. I cannot think of anything else. I can't find this issue on WLMM help site. Thanks for any ideas.

I have narrowed it down to MAYBE some tweaks I made to my system. I installed a new SSD at the same time as the clean install of Windows. I am changing everything back to normal and will try it again. The problem is....I don't have much time during the week and this happens after I have been cutting files and editing a large amount of video clips. It's like the temp file it creates has a "limit". The problem is not caused by the .MOV files being corrupted. I have determined this. I think it will be one of the tweaks I made with SSD tweaker.

Elpamsoft.com

I will set to default and try it again.I will post the results here. Thanks SO much for helping. I will let you know what happens when I get 30-40 minutes to try editing with the tweaks reverted to default.

If your "untweaking" does not resolve the issue, uninstall WLMM with free Revo ( use the advanced option). That way you can make sure all registry entries and files are being deleted. Then a new install cannot pick up on those (which might be defective).

Good advice whs. I will try that.

BTW....as I remember you....you are into SSDs too. I just got a new Patriot Inferno 120GB. I did a video on it on YT undr the same user name. I posted the link in "show us your SSD performance"

Thanks again. I will let you guys know how it goes with this odd problem with WLMM. I have found 2011 version to be pretty darn good. I like it.

Yeah, I saw your little video about the SSD. I use them on my 2 desktops and on one laptop where I had a heat problem which was cured with the SSD. But they did not give me any WLMM problems.

Have you used any SSD tweaker? Do you tweak Windows to optimize for SSDs?

SSD Tweak Utility

With all the advice online for SSD hard drives it can take hours of research and fiddling to properly setup your SSD drive. Now with this little app you can Tweak Windows 2K/XP/Vista & 7 including x64 in seconds.

Lets you Tweak the following:
Windows Services (I have not turned off any services)
Query and Set Windows 7 TRIM Status
Hibernation Settings
Use Large System Cache
Ntfs Memory Usage
Disable 8.3 Filenames
Disable Date Stamping
Disable Boot Tracing
Windows Prefetcher
Windows Vista Superfetch
Windows Indexing Service
System Restore (mine still on using 2% max)
Windows Defrag

I am wondering if one of these tweaks is making WLMM suffer when I get a large project going. That's the only time it seems to happen. I will set to default and try it in the next couple of days. I AM wondering if you use these tweaks.

I believe that is this program that you used ( Guide SSD Tweak Utility ). I have used it a while ago without poblems. But that was on a Vista installation. The only point that might be suspect in the context is "Use Large System Cache" - may be.

I was thinking the same thing. I don;t know exactly what this does. I read about it a few months ago, but have forgotten. I will disable this tweak and try a big video edit to see what happens.

When you enable System cache mode on a computer that uses Unified Memory Architecture (UMA)-based video hardware or an Accelerated Graphics Port (AGP), you may experience a severe and random decrease in performance. For example, this decrease in performance can include very slow system performance, stop errors, an inability to start the computer, devices or applications that do not load, and system instability.

Thanks. I did re-enable the "large system cache" tried a video project and got through it. i was not as big as the previous ones, but that MAY have been the problem. Thanks. I will post back if I have other issues.
