Local Area Connection showing Red X

Recently had to reset wireless router and discovered my LAC wasn't working on my desktop. Wizard says bad cable, but I bought a new one and was able to establish a LAC connection on my laptop, which was how I was able to login into my wireless router. I hadn't noticed system tray icon went from desktop to Wi-Fi bars.

My config is modem>router>desktop (desktop is working via Wi-Fi). I have went to network connections and reset the adapter connection. I have updated the network controller (says it's already updated). LAC still not working with a Red X. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

After resetting the router did you type in the SSID, set up the security and the encryption etc..?

After that you will want to delete the old wireless profile then set up a new one for this connection in Manage Wireless Networks via the Network and Sharing Center.

I didn't myself, but the routers wizard did it for me. I'll check to see what they are. Note that the problems was occurring before I did the router reset. The reset was just to do a firmware update. Another note that may be helpful is that my router is dual band. The other band also has a red x. I'm currently operating on the 2 ghz. Lastly, when I bypass the router and hook up my modem directly to the desktop I get no network connection with the red x for my LAC. Thanks.

Does connecting directly to the modem with a wire work?

Can you post the ipconfig/all from this machine?

That is generally referred to as the 2.4Ghz radio, so the wireless is working where the wired connection gives you the red X?

Connecting directly through the modem doesn't work, because then only my LAC is an option for connectivity. I should note that when I connected to the modem from my laptop (done during trouble shooting) the LAC connection there is fine.

Yes the 2.4Ghz radio is good. Yes the wired connection is a red x (5Ghz radio has red x too, but not sure if that's normal). Normally in my current set up my laptop would have a monitor icon on the systems tray, but right now it's showing the wireless icon (ascending bars).

So if my Wi-Fi stopped working for whatever reason I'd no longer have a connection on my desktop and would have to connect my laptop to the modem.

The ipconfig looks good, no obvious problems here.

Try running the file below which will reset the network stack, flush the DNS and reset the ip, after that it will reboot your machine, let me know if anything changes.
