Lock Screen Appears After Desktop Is Idle

I am using Windows 7 Professional 32 bit. My machine runs 24x7 - I don't power down at night. I use Comodo free firewall. Everything was working perfect until a few days ago when turned on the monitor in the morning and the lock screen appeared asking me for my password. I entered my password and I was immediately taken to Google Chrome where a spam website was open on the screen.

This has continued to occur but now when I enter my password the Christian Mingle website usually appears open in Google Chrome. It appears that when the Desktop is on the screen for an extended period of time the lock screen displays asking me for my password. If I leave a program open on the screen the lock screen doesn't appear.

I have run MalwareBytes several times with no malware found. I have run SuperAntiSpyware several times and deleted the cookies it found. I have also run ESET anti-virus with nothing found.

Something has got into my machine and I don't know how to fix the lock screen - Chrome Christian Mingle issue.

Does anyone have an idea how this happened and how I can fix it? Thanks, Bill

What do you mean it appears in Chrome ? Has your homepage been hijacked ?

Did you look into add remove programs to see if you downloaded any toolbars etc ?

These things don`t just happen on their own.

24/7 Yikes, no reason for that unless it`s a server.

Passwords are useless, no reason to have one on a home PC, more harm then good.

once you straighten out your issue, you should get rid of the password, and get rid of the lock screen so your pc goes straight to your desktop.

When I say it appears in Chrome I mean that after I enter my password instead of the desktop appearing Chrome is already open with a spam website.

Yes, I looked in Add Remove programs. I don't see anything that should not be there.

You say "these things don't just happen on their own" ... I am thinking that someone or something got past my firewall and entered my machine.

Yes, you are correct passwords are useless in a home PC. For several years I had a business in my home and employees used my machine. Now I have no employees so I removed my password after I read your post.

I will see what happens now that I removed my password. I still would like to know why everything worked perfect with no issues until 3 days ago.

Check the add-ons / extensions in Chrome. Problematic things can be there which won't be caught by your A/V scanner.

Check Control Panel / Power Settings. Make sure that you are not required to enter a password after the monitor powers down.

A couple of things which I don't think are causing your issue, but rather are good computing practice:

• Log out of Christian Mingle (and any other web sites you have logged into) whenever you have finished working at the computer.
• Restart the computer from time to time (maybe once per week).

This is just me ranting, but......

I said it before and I`ll say it again, leaving a PC on 24/7 is like handing someone your car keys and saying here, drive it around until I need it again.

There is no reason to leave a PC on when you`re not using it.

But I`m sure you`re using Hibernation or sleep ???

Do you have any restore points that date back to before the problems started ?

If so, backup any recent data and do a system restore, that should fix it.
