I have a small home network consisting of 1 Desktop/Windows 7 Pro, 1 Laptop/Windows 7 Pro & 1 Laptop /Windows 8. All are 64bit machines.

I would like to view/list the users that are currently logged on to the network.

I have tried "Soft Perfect Network Scanner". I have set the option to return logged on users but,

1) When run from the Windows 7 Desktop->shows info for all machines on network except only shows logged on user for the Windows 7 Desktop.
2) When run from the Windows 8 laptop->shows info for all machines on network except only shows logged on users for the Windows 7 Desktop and Windows 8 laptop.
3) When run from the Windows 7 laptop->shows info for all machines on network except only shows logged on users for the Windows 7 Desktop and Windows 7 laptop.

My guess is that there is some privilege I need to set on one or more machines.

All other sharing seems to work correctly including sharing of folders and a printer attached to the Windows 7 Desktop. Sharing is done by "Workgroup". Homegroup and Homegroup services have been disabled.

Please help getting "Soft Perfect Network Scanner" to display logged on users or recommend another app.

Have you tried the latest version from July-26-13, version number 5.4.12

Not sure about the support for Windows 8 but I would think the latest version should work.

You're anti virus may also be blocking it.

I'm not familiar with the application so can't offer any advice but rather my opinion ;)

If the users are logged in locally then you will not be able to view who is logged on unless at the local machine. This is of course with native Windows so a third party application would be needed.

Unless you have a shared folder that you wish to see who accesses it (Auditing) then I don't see a reason why you would want to know who is logged on but that isn't my place to talk :geek:

EDIT: Just looked up the application and can see it does other useful options...

This tutorial may help if you wish to see who accesses a shared folder - http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/123362-audit-log-access-shared-folders.html

As for the blocked access with the application, I agree with chev65 that a firewall is the most likely blocking the signal.

Just a quick question, are the Windows 8 users logged in with a microsoft account or a local account?

Just my view,
Josh :)

What is a Microsoft account as opposed to a local account? As stated before the problem is NOT the anti-virus or firewall as I disabled both and still no joy.
