Logging devices change in device manager

Hello there,
I am having problems with a pcie ethernet card- It sometimes phisically disconnects and connects again i think. I was wondering either it is possible to see device manager events in the windows Event Viewer. Is it possible to see things like that in there? Also for example usb devices connection/ disconnection etc? I Would aprichiate any help.

You can go to Device Manager, highlight the device, and then under the Actions menu choose "Scan for Hardware Changes".
But I doubt that will shed any light on why it is disconnecting. That usually just tells you if the driver has changed.

Event Viewer will only log Windows errors, so if the hardware causes an event that triggers a Windows error it would be there then.

It would be good to know what manner of 'disconnecting' you are dealing with.
If the device is disconnecting from the system (power or installation problem) you could observe Device Manager to see if the device disappears there when it disconnects. This will prove it is a hardware problem.

But if you mean that the card is dropping the network connection that would be another animal altogether.

the moint is i am not abble to notice the disconnection, because its on a remote system and I would have to stare at device manager all the time and I cant. By disconnect I mean removing the power from the peripheral at least. Is it possible to log for example usb device connection/ disconnection?

Why a USB device? Isn't the problem with a PCIe card?

its represented in the device manager as well, so its easy to test.

From remote computer I really don't know what you can or can not do but I have something to try.

As well as what Layback Bear suggested, you may try going to power options>advanced power settings and look for USB Selective Suspend and select disable. Enabled allows Windows to disable USB ports when not active to save power. Disabling that may keep the USB from losing power.

This is just a thought. It sounds like the internet service disconnect and reconnects. I don't know how you get your internet service, if by coax cable. What you need to do if you have more than one splitter connection. Make sure the coax to computer or router is connected to the 1st splitter. You will still get some disconnection but it shouldn't be as much. I am basing this on my own experience.

Nothing simple comes to mind though for PCI events
