Ok, this one is simple and I'm pretty sure many people can probably solve this. For some reason I can't because I'm either too impatient to search thoroughly for this or just plain stupid and I can't find an answer for it.

I'm looking for a web cam that DOES NOT come with a Mic. Just a straight up web cam with decent capture capabilities that is compatible with Windows 7. Is there such a thing in the market?

I'm currently, or I should say, I did use Hercules Classic Glass lens and the only way to get that working with Windows 7 is to download the 2.8 drivers, run them in Vista SP1 compatibility mode and then it would work.

Now the camera functions 100% but for some reason it ends up screwing up my recording features in my X-Fi, by that I mean it makes it impossible to use any of the Front Panel features or even the Microphone. Disabling the sound-portion of the driver from the Device Manager unfortunately removes the Camera Mic but does not solve the X-Fi recording devices issue. I had to do a System Restore in order to get my Mic working again.

That's the reason why I asked. And probably why I'm going to get a Mic-Less camera since I won't be using the Mic that comes with it anyway.

Hope somebody could help.

Thank you.

i've never used x-fi or heard of it, but i would first try using another program to record, i dont see how a functional camera could mess up front panel stuff unless you just very very confused and disabling things and not remembering

try manycam or amcap

It's a sound card made by Creative. One of the nicest ones you can get in the Market. Was probably the nicest sound card you can get about a year or so ago. Anyways, I still haven't received an answer for my problem.

Anybody can recommend a good Web Cam without Mic that works flawlessly under W7?

I bought one of these [ame=http://www.amazon.co.uk/TeckNet-Webcam-resolution-microphone-Function/dp/B000Q3VECE/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1249976777&sr=8-4]TeckNet Webcam Cam upto 5.0 Mega pixels resolution, 5G: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo[/ame]
It has a mic, but it doesn't do it over USB, it's a separate 3.5mm cable out the back, so if you don't want to plug the mic in, you don't have to. It came with a driver/application disc, but worked straight off when just plugged into my Win7 64bit.

I bought one of these TeckNet Webcam Cam upto 5.0 Mega pixels resolution, 5G: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo
It has a mic, but it doesn't do it over USB, it's a separate 3.5mm cable out the back, so if you don't want to plug the mic in, you don't have to. It came with a driver/application disc, but worked straight off when just plugged into my Win7 64bit.

Unfortunately, it seems that this Web Cam is only available in the UK. If you want to buy one, put it on eBay for me, I'll buy it from you.

when you get it can you take a few still shots of something mouse sized and post em up somewhere, i'd be interested to see how it does things like that, oh and maybe a shot of some text, as i often need to look at small bits on circuit boards etc
