Hi,

i have had some trauma in my life and my councelor has suggested that it may help to start a daily diary to get some of this stuff down and vent about my experience with it all. Not that it matters here but i was in a bad motorcycle accident and have sevier trauma and will have life long pain.

I have done some looking but most things i found dont have good reviews, not trusted, or spam you to death or change your search and home page.

I dont want to do this online for privacy reasons (big brother is watching lol), so i would like to have a local windows software that i can password protect.

Anyone know of a good daily diary type software.. Win7 pro 64 bit i7 system...

Thanks :)

Update, ,well unless anyone else has anything to offer i have narrowed it down to two items.

Efficient Diary or iDailyDiary....

1. both have decent reviews from software informer.

Pros and cons just shopping without even using either one yet. It all depends on what you find important i guess.

Efficient pros

Seems to have more features
has won 12 awards
more current editor review (software informer)

Efficient Cons

3 dif registrars with 2 drops
nameserver 7 changes in 8 years
9 ip changes in 8 years
cant even pronounce the registrants name (chinese i believe) but their hosting tech contact does seem to be with lunar pages in california. Also shows bluehost.com for the name servers, im guessing bluehost might be a reseller for lunar pages.

note: has a much better looking professional looking website

Final thought, high marks but alittle unstable regarding business stability and location and tech support may be difficult IF you have to talk to someone in china. But it does seem to have local support (not verified)

-----------------------------------

IDaily pros

won 4 awards
much better business stability indicators 1 registrar 12 years
only 4 changes NS and IP over that time.
they also seem to have support forum
it has more users using it.

IDaily Cons

Older editor review Review (software informer) and was for a different version.

note: based in UK and website is sort of rough looking

===========================

Final thought - for me Efficient Diary may have a better package but im hessitant as to the company stablility with number of users and registrar data stability. And many of those awards are given to those what will pay to recieve them. IDaily does not have the impressive website or eye candy... But they have more users and overall less cons for me.

For now im still not sure... I have DL both though just in case.

Notepad? Save text files with whatever formatting you what to an encrypted directory? Does it really need to be so complicated that you need a dedicated program?

A simple Word doc would make a nice diary. I don't know why you would need any more than that.

Yes for the most part i agree.. However having software for this does make it more convenient.

Have you ever tried to print a notepad document, or wanted to add a picture to a notepad document, or have them in succession by date. So if i didnt care about all that yes it would be nice and easy.

I do have libre office but again although it has the formatting and image needs, keeping them in succession by date would be a handfull.

The biggest part of the software purpose is to just make it convenient as it is designed for that, and we all know how important convenience is to us all, when was the last time you picked up your tv remote lol... :)

I did fire them both up last night for a min. Both have pw protection but the dif is that daily diary has a recovery question if you forget your pw. Efficient diary does not and if you forget, your screwed.

Efficient also has a new version but if you update it sounds like your locked into the pro version and very limited unless you pay $30.00

Daily actually looks like a spiral notebook and in my very limited use i have not seen any free version blocks yet. But im sure they snuck some in there somewhere, they always do lol..

If you make your diary a single Libre Office document that you keep adding to, it will always be in succession by date. You should be able to easily search within that document. If you make each page it's own day, you should be able to link page numbers to the date (I keep saying "should be able to" because I use M$ Office and I'm not familiar with Libre Office). If you want separate documents for each date (I don't know why you would, though), just name each document with the date although, with the correct window view, the document creation date will also sort them for you.

I don't completely trust my data to third party programs. If the program should become abandonware and not be compatible with the next OS, your data is toast (I've had it happen although I was able to recover from it). I do use third party programs to keep track of my music and e-books but the original data itself remains untouched and is generated separately from the third party programs keeping track of it.

What you could do is create a spreadsheet for your separate Word files. For each one you create add an entry into the spreadsheet with a date and hyperlink it to the actual document. You only ever have to save your files once then and you'll never have to navigate to them again, a simple click from your database will open any entry you want/need. You could also make notes in the spreadsheet as to what was included in each entry, sometimes creating such a database can be therapeutic in itself.

Just use word or kingsoft office. Having a program would make it a lot more inconvenient. Plus word And kingsoft both allow you to paste images and print them. in fact i know people who use notepad for a dairy.
