Got a neophyte question that hopefully somebody can assist with.

I just clean installed Windows 7 back onto my wife's computer. When I booted up, it recognized the wireless ... but I cannot get it to connect via the wired cable that it previously connected through.

Do I need to download a driver for it or something? Is there a simple way to get it to recognize the wired connection instead of the wireless? I went into my connection manager, but don't see the option there for the wired connection.

Thx if you can help!

Sounds as if the network interface card (NIC) driver is missing.
Go into device manager to see if you get any red crosses.
What laptop or motherboard does your wifes computer use?

What is the make/model of the system? I would download the driver if you haven't done that already. Go to the manufacturer's website and download the drivers from there. If you need any help with this let me know but thats a good place to start.

First check optional Windows Updates for missing or newer drivers than what are issued by the installer. Automatically get recommended drivers and updates for your hardware

In Device Manager, look under Network adapters to see if Ethernet adapter has its driver, click Update driver to go online using wireless connection to search Windows Updates. Driver Install - Device Manager - Windows 7 Forums

Next check the Support Downloads webpage for the computer or adapter model to update the driver.

It is unusual for the Win7 installer (which is driver-complete) to not have an Ethernet driver. Is there a chance your Local Area COnnection is disabled in Network & SHaring Center>Change Adapter settings? Rightclick it to run the Troubleshooter. What happens if you Disable the Wireless connection there?

I have the same issue as you.

My Computer is the HP Pavilion Elite HPE-410f

Every time that I reinstall Windows 7. The OS finds the Wireless just fine; but the wired will not work until I install the driver from the HP site.

The same happened to me. I went to my computer properties on the right side of that screen was "change settings" link this put through a network setup wizard and then requied a reboot. After reboot my wired worked. let me know if the same works for you.
