I have A VERY wierd problem concerning all the lost pictures that came from my Canon G5 camera by ways of Zoom Browser EX.

The program has disappeared from my laptop but still features in my control panel ( canon camera window for zoom browser EX ). I have my windows live photo gallery as screen safer, and I see my lost pictures at random go by but cannot get hold of them. So they must be there somewhere ????

Is there a way of extracting them from my screen safer program ?

Thanks in advance for any help on this,

Thelma

My guess is that the shortcut to the prog has been deleted. Type Canon in the Start Menu and see what comes up. If it's there, go to the folder, right-click it and Create Shortcut, then drag it to desktop.

As for the pics, the screensaver probably is configurable. Go to CP / Personalize, click Screensaver and see where it's looking for the pics.

The default Windows screen savers are in c:\windows\system32; however, if one is using 3rd party screensaver/rotating photo display, the pics can be anywhere. Fileseek [free or fee] is a good tool for finding files.

You could try searching your entire c: drive with with windows built in search in file explorer if you know the extension of the pictures or you could either type in or paste
Code:
*.gif,*.jpg
note: This may take quite a while if you have a large hard drive

thanks all for you time taken to think this over.

I did already search for Canon and other related words in the search box.

Since last time, I have now been through the register ( searching for Zoom Browser EX ) and did not find it either. I did a " System file checker" with the sfc\scannow and looked at the CBS log, that is always wrong, because then you find other problems.

Still after the file check Zoom browser reappeared in my programs in the startup menu so I quickly made a shortcut to my desktop.

Now the program opens but only works half and many (but not all ) pictures are not on the place where they should be. I cannot use many of the options in the program and ask myself now if I should go on line to Canon and update the program by way of giving them my camera details. But will my old pictures show up in the updated version ?

Still cannot get to the screen safer index of my pictures.

It originates from my " Windows Photo Gallery " ages ago when I created this as my screen safer and I still really like it.
Now when I search in the photo gallery, many of these old ones from the Canon browser show up there as " Zb Thumbnail info" which I am unable to open. It is getting more and more complicated.

If only I could get to the screen safer index and copy it to somewhere............ ?????????????

You may have deeper problems, in the form of either malware or a degenerating hard drive. The first thing I would do is back up all user data to an external drive. If possible, create a system image also.

Then I would read the SMART attributes of the drive. You can d/l GSmartControl to do that. You can perform the Long Test also.

Only after the back up would I then do a chkdsk /R, because this can be data destructive.

Finally I would run a MBAM scan for malware.

At this point you will know how reliable the system is and you can do further troubleshooting from there.

hello again, and thanks, again !!!!

I tried it all. It was a good idea, so I did a right click on the picture ( originated from zoombrowser and now in Windows photo gallery ) and choose open file location, nothing happened.
I have tried recuperating with recuva.
I found the old CD that came with my Canon G5 in 2004 and tried to reinstall Zoom browser EX, but that does not work because it says " is already installed" and I cannot dis-install it because then I really loose the bit of pictures that are still on it.
I also tried to open the Windows screen saver ( as all the pictures are mine ) in c:\windows\system 32 ...... Found all sorts of straingh things there I had never seen before, but no screen saver.
Looked up in the register, where my screen safer is filed.
Found it under "c:\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\scrfile , subkey Default Screensafer, friendly Type name @Shell32,-10162 " ,what ever that means ? Still no way of getting my old photo's back. Some are hidden under Zb Thumbnail info, so now I will look on the internet how I can open these things .............., I will be back here .......

MiniTool Power Data Recovery might be of help. You can recover 1GB for free; I paid for the license, now I can recover unlimited.

I went to the Canon web side and fount out that my "Zoom Browers X " had been replaced by " Image Browser EX ".

I downloaded this newer version and now all my old picturesare back as normal and NOT as Bz Thumbnails inf. which I could not open.
