I'm going nuts. My PC will not connect to my wired network, but it will connect to it wirelessly through an USB N adapter (I couldn't afford the downtime). This happened on another wired PC in my home about 5 months ago and I simply left that on the wireless connection but I would like the security of the wired for my main PC. A win 7 laptop plugged into the same outlet with the same cable works fine so I assume it has to be my NIC card, drivers or some setting. Where do I start?

Resetting your router would be the first course of action here. You will need to go back in to your routers set up page and make sure all the settings are correct after that or if you have a router configuration file handy it's easier.

check your network adapter settings and see if they are set to DHCP provided that you are using DHCP.. you would go to control panel > network sharing center -> change adapter settings -> then select your LAN adapter and hit properties.

Are you just not connecting to the internet or the network period?

Show us what you are getting when you wire in and take a screenshot of the command prompt and type in ipconfig /all

Are you getting any link lights on the ethernet port on your computer?
