Hello, I have been experiencing a lot of BSOD over the past 2 weeks. My old video card fried itself, and since installing the new one after about a week it has been problem after problem. I have tried everything I can think of to resolve the issue, from reseating the video card to uninstalling and then reinstalling different versions of the video driver. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Most if not all were Related to ad-aware security program from Lavasoft. I would remove it.

already has been removed, did that in week 1 of debugging the issue, yet it still persists, can happen randomly, and always happens while running video games, even older ones such as knights of the old republic

Hello Greebz, welcome to SF!

If you've already followed Zigzags advice, next thing is to update your ATI graphics drivers. Your latest dump blames one of the ATI files

Sorry, I guess I did not post enough information, I've only been running on a few hours of sleep a night so I guess that could be the culprit.

So I have the latest driver, does not work. I believe this all started because the old video card had been overclocked(I did not order this on the PC from IBUYPOWER but apparantly they did it anyways). So when that fried and I installed the new video card, I did not reset the overclocking and that cause several crashes followed by the screen on startup that said the previous attempt at overclocking has failed(or something close to that). I reset the bios and that problem is now gone. The adaware driver problem I fixed awhile ago as well, and then I kept getting dxgkrnl.sys, dxgmm1s.sys and now the last one was acdm64a.sys(or something close to that my notes are at home and I am at work I will post that this afternoon as needed). I have reseated the video card several times, as well as the RAM. I have tested all RAM and each stick works fine. I have fixed it enough so that I can run most applications and browsing without any bsods, however I still get them while gaming. Sometimes after the BSOD, when I power on the computer, everything turns on and everything starts running except the HDD. Could this be a HDD error? Or could it possibly be PWS related? I was hoping it was just software related so I do not have to spend anymore money.

Any insight would be fantastic. Thanks again in advance and sorry for the lack of information in the first post.

I fixed the overclocking issue about 2 or 3 days ago. So the most recent dumps of the atdcm64a.sys should be after that. I just stumbled upon that issue and reset it to defaults.

So first was the old video card failure. I didnt do much with the PC until the new card arrived, and then I uninstalled the old video card drivers, installed the new card, and then ran the driver installation cd. Then I was gettign various BSODs still, even if I just left the PC on overnight without running anything, I thought it might be overheating but I found that to not be the case. now it seems to mostly be the video drivers that are causing problems, I have tried the CD driver version and the latest driver from the amd website, neither of which solves the problem.

Im starting to think it may be hardware related which is a huge dissapointment. Hopefully it is not though.

Any ideas on what else I can try?

If I understand correctly, you get random BSOD's, mostly, but not only when gaming?
If so, though it is a drag, please try running in Safe mode for a relatively long amount of time. Such that you would normally get another BSOD? If you don't... then it still looks like drivers.

It looks like it may just be gaming now. I left the computer on all last night and it had zero problems this morning. I will check when I get home from work and see if that is still the case. Its just hard to believe its hardware related when I get the BSOD in old and new games.

If it is the driver, and I have tried the CD version of the driver that came with the card and the latest driver as downloaded from amd, where do I turn to next?

we probably try that once more but ensure that all old drivers have been deleted. The de-install or update process apparently does not always work well which is why a lot of people here advise on using specialized graphic driver removal software like driversweeper:

When upgrading your graphic driver you MUST remove all traces of the current driver. In order to do that we recommend using Driver Sweeper

Driver Sweeper is a fast tool to remove driver leftovers from your system. It's very important to remove your drivers on a proper way, because driver leftovers can cause problems like stability and startup problems. You can use it if you want to update/remove drivers from your system.

How to use ?

There are two methods to use Driver Sweeper.
Both methods achieve the same results. This method is always able to clean all files.

This method will delete remaining files upon reboot (if deleting failed). You can clean your drivers this way:

- Use the official uninstaller(s) of the driver(s) you want to uninstall.
- Reboot your PC in Safe Mode.
- Run Driver Sweeper and select what to clean.
- Analyse lists all the entries possible to remove, cleaning removes the entries selected.
- More drivers can be selected for the same cleaning process.

What can it be used for ?
The current supported drivers are NVIDIA (Display and Chipset), ATI (Display), Creative (Sound) Realtek (Sound), Ageia (PhysX) and Microsoft (Mouse).

Phyxion.net - Driver Sweeper
When it is removed then download and install the fresh copy, from the manufacturers' site if possible.

Ok sorry it took a bit to get back to you guys, MvdB that solution worked great, it would seem that the leftover remnants of the NVIDIA drivers from the old card was messing things up, I just ran Total War Shogun 2 for 17 hours, it froze and locked up, but there were no BSOD at all, so i believe the error i encountered was more software related than anything with the drivers.

Thank God it was not hardware related.

Thanks again!

Alright so, now I am no longer getting BSODs, however I cannot run ANY game now, any game will freeze anywhere from 5 min to an hour into the game. Happens in newer games such as Shogun 2 Total War, Heroes 5, and Empire total war, but also very much older games like Knights of the Old Republic and sid meirs pirates.

Since before when i was getting the BSODs, sometimes it would take up to an hour of waiting before the computer would be able to boot, if I turned it on right after a bsod, it would not boot, everything would have power but what seemed like the HDD.

Could this mean my HDD is going? I find this doubtful because why would everything work fine as long as i am not running any game and can use it as an internet machine easily.

Could it be the Power Supply is not getting enough power out? Could be, but I do not have a spare to test with and would hate to spend money on something unneeded.

The other problem I can think of is possibly the processor overheating?

Im not sure if I should have created this as a new thread, but since I believe this all stems from the same issue I figured I should just continue posting here.

Please help I do not want to have to reactive xbox live to get some gaming in haha

Checked the power supply when I was home for lunch. It is 600w and does not seem to be the problem. I unplugged both the DVD drives and the PC wouldnt start. Im almost positive it is the CPU overheating at this point, will try adding new thermal compound tonight

It does sound like a possible temp problem, though not sure if it is CPU. I would guess it is GPU..
Have you used something like HWMonitor to keep track? CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting

PS... I know you probably meant it correctly but just to be sure... : One NEVER ADDS thermal compound. You have to clean well with a alcohol based solution and apply new using your preferred method (rice pea clot in the middle or spreading or lines...). I prefer ric pea and let pressure take its course, imho least air bubble chance.

Yeah I removed the old thermal compound first using isopropenol(however you spell it) alcohol. added the new stuff and still having problems, cannot even play heroes of might and magic 2. I do not think the graphics card is overheating since I just added that because the old one fried out. What I am beggening to believe happend is when the first problems occured and the old video card fried out, it also damaged the motherboard, there was some discoloration around the PCIE slot. I am going to try one more thing tonight and if that does not work I am calling the system dead and I will have to buy new parts.

Also just a random side note, but holy crap my CPU heatsink is a pain in the ass to get on. any reason they make it this way?

picking up my friend and his PC, going to plug my components into his one by one as a test to see what is working, if everything comes back fine then i can be positive it is the motehrboard that is having a problem.

plus if that is the case I will be upgrading to DDR3 RAM so my friend wants to snipe my DDR2, which is how i talked him into coming over haha

Just a check... you've had this system for quite a while, running on an older OS right? Lately you updated to W7. You told us that... but what HW modifications, if any, have you done?
