Errors, critical or other wise is typical Microsoft. As to the phone call and comp cleaning you did, sounds like you've been had and someone is trying to get money from you.

It's a scam! Been going around for quite a while. You don't want anyone to have access to your computer, who you don't personally know.

The phone call is a scam. No one from Microsoft will ever call you or any other legitimate company.

They offer to clean it remotely for you and then steal all your bank account info and any credit card info you have on your PC.

Errors are normal. If everything is working properly then don't worry about it.

Temporary files- you can clean out those easily.
Tutorial to do so.
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/818-disk-cleanup-open-use.html

Go with Step 1,2,3 then Step 6. No further. Just click the buttons. No need to check mark or uncheck anything. Go with what Windows selects.
That is it.

Do this every one to two weeks and the temporsary files that are no longer needed will be removed and saves you some hard drive space for new stuff. :D

In a situation like that, you should ask yourself, why would someone be calling me out of the blue, someone who doesn't know me, saying they need to help me with my computer, especially if you didn't ask for any help.

Social engineering is still a good way to get at someones files and information. And unfortunately, it still works.

Unless you specifically contacted someone to help you with a PC problem, anytime you get a call like that, best to say something like "Sorry, I don't own a computer" and hang up.
