For the past 24 hours, my laptop has been randomly freezing. I checked the event log, and there is one event that keeps happening, and the error is below:

Failed extract of third-party root list from auto update cab at: <http://www.download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3/static/trustedr/en/authrootstl.cab> with error: A required certificate is not within its validity period when verifying against the current system clock or the timestamp in the signed file.

Could this be a problem with the Norton Antivirus I have installed? Seems something is trying to download, and when it's unable--the whole system freezes. No movement on the mouse, I can't ctrl, alt, del. I have to just power down and then restart.:(

IT WAS SUGGESTED TO ME yesterday, TO RUN A WINDOWS FIX IT PROGRAM, WHICH I DID, BUT I AM STILL HAVING THE FREEZING PROBLEM.

Any help would be great!!! Thanks.....

You will forgive me. That appears to be windows update that is giving you grief.

I am not certain if it is being caused by norton but I would replace Norton with Microsoft Security essentials anyway., To Test you could disable norton. You may also have to find which update it is and hide it.

Let us know if you need help

THANK YOU for the quick response. Could you please tell me how to find the update so i can disable it? that would be a great help. I will also try disabling Norton to see if that helps.
