Solved Magic Barrage deletion

All of a sudden I have magic barrage on my system. I did not intentionally download it and It has a window the appears on my desktop prompting me to play. How can I get rid of this program?

I registered purely because this just happened to me RIGHT NOW for the first time ever as well, I got a desktop popup that I was able to close in task manager by closing "Updatepack.exe" the file name has been to vague for me to comb results out of searches, I havent begun to dig too deep yet but as this got us both today it sounds like a payload from a dormant virus?

Ad popped up for me too. Source was Game Booster (C:\Program Files (x86)\IObit\Game Booster 3), so I uninstalled it.

It got me as well. I found the updatepackasc.exe location in C:\users\user\appdata\local\temp\updatepackasc.exe . Deleting that might cure the problem, but I highly doubt it. Here is a link to to a webpage that talks about that exe file. They will need to update it.

I am editing this post because it said a mod had to allow my other post. Anyway, I think it comes from advanced system care from Iobit. Someone may of hijacked one of their exes. Here is a link to another website that talks about this.

I think it is advanced system care from Iobit.

Edit: Ironsword beat me to it. Yeah, it's any program from iobit. Be sure to uninstall AND delete the folder.

It appears to also affect windows xp. My windows xp computer also has it.

It appears that the offending files are updatepackasc.exe in windows 7 and updatepack.exe in windows xp

It also appears to be the gamebooster program that either stands alone or is part of advanced system is the problem.

The problem file is either located in C:\Users\"user name"\AppData\Local\Temp or where the gamebooster program is located ex. C:\Program Files (x86)\IObit\Game Booster 3 or C:\Program Files \IObit\Game Booster 3

Found it in user's appdata temp directory...

Found the same file, updatepackasc.exe, in C:\users\<user name here>\AppData\local\temp directory.

Found it in the same place on a second notebook. I deleted it on both notebooks.

I found it running in the Windows Task Manager Processes Tab list on the second notebook. When I stopped the process, the popup went away. Looking at the process properties showed me the location from where it had been launched.

This is bizarre. I don't know if it's simple malware or something more sinister. Also, I haven't installed anything suspicious either. I don't use junkware.

I found the same files in the same location and deleted it and the popup went away. To be sure, I rebooted the computer and it still didn't return. Good!!!

I have also removed updatepackasc.exe from my user temp folder it fixed the issue for a few days but it came back. I have not installed any updates or any other IO-Bit software since I did that. On further examination I also found another file loygame-pro.exe that appeared in my temp folder along with the previous file. Both files were same size and had same icon. I have now removed both these files from my system (in fact I removed the entire username/temp folder). all now appears to be OK. I am now keeping my fingers crossed. Hope this is of help to others

Magic Barrage Deletion

I use XP and had the same thing appear on boot-up yesterday which means that a bug had been hacked into my hard drive. It took some time but I think the source is Facebook which supports this game. After another half hour of going through FB lists, options and BS, I was able to send them a nastygram about invading my hard drive with this bug. That is ABSOLUTELY against their expressed policy statement. Thanks to others here who have determined that the exe is updatepackasc.exe and can remove it from my PC.

Magic Barrage solved for me

I had installed free Peggles game and in turn you had to download Origin... I uninstalled Origin and it disappeared... reloaded Origin and it came back.

Advanced System Care seems the issue

IO Bit advises that Magic Barrage is a "partner" of theirs and apparently Advanced System Care Pro users had the software installed without the user's knowledge or permission. I've uninstalled ASC, since they may do this again at will. It's hard to completely uninstall.
