Make bootable iso from student d/l

How to Create a Bootable ISO from a Student Windows 7 Download

If you get the student d/l and have 3 files :

Here's how:

1. Rt click each file, Properties > Unblock>Apply>OK.
NOTE: Make sure read only boxes are clear.

2. Rt click and run as admin on the .exe. You will get a folder called expandedsetup on your dektop with these inside:
EXPANDEDSETUPCONTENTS-2009-10-22_061340.jpg
   Note

If you receive this error:

We are unable to create or save new files in the folder in which this application was downloaded. Please check the folder properties to make sure that you have security permission on the folder to write files and that the folder is not read-only.

Continue.

3. D/L this zip, extract it and copy/move oscdimg.exe into C:\Windows\system32.
View attachment oscdimg.zip
4. Assuming expandedsetup is on your Desktop:

Vista/7 users open an elevated command prompt ( rt click cmd and run as admin) and type :

Code:
Oscdimg.exe –u2 –b"C:\Users\your_username\Desktop\expandedSetup\boot\etfsboot.com" –h "C:\Users\your_username\Desktop\expandedSetup" C:\7.iso

XP users commands are:

Code:
cd /d C:\windows\system32

Code:
oscdimg -u2 -b"C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Desktop\expandedSetup\boot\etfsboot.com" -h "C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Desktop\expandedSetup" C:\7.iso

5. You can copy and paste the above into elevated cmd.

Vista/7 users- replace your_username with your actual username.

XP users - replace USER with your actual username

6. Then press enter. Xp users press enter after each of their two commands.

7. If the expandedsetup folder is not on your desktop, replace with appropriate paths.

   Tip
You may wish to copy the expandedsetup folder directly onto the root of C:

The paths will be shorter and the command will be:

Code:
Oscdimg.exe –u2 –bC:\expandedSetup\boot\etfsboot.com –h C:\expandedSetup C:\7.iso

If your folder is elsewhere, to get the paths easily, press shift and rt click on etfsboot.com - select copy as path ( paste into notepad )

Shift and rt click on expanded setup - select copy as path - paste into notepad ) Use those instead of the above.

The spacing needs to be exact.
   Warning
When the .iso is created you will get this message:

WARNING: This image contains UDF file system structures.

That is normal as you are creating the udf filesystem.

8. A) You can burn the .iso to dvd as an image with an isoburner.
View attachment isoburner.zip
OR

B) You can use the Microsoft DVD/USB tool to burn the .iso to dvd or to use the .iso to make a bootable flash drive. Download the tool:
View attachment Windows7-USB-DVD-tool.exe
   Tip
To make a copy of your Windows 7 ISO file:

1. Click the Start button, and click Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool in the All Programs list to open the USB/DVD Download tool.
2. Click Browse and select the file in the Open dialog box.
3. Select USB to create a copy on a USB flash drive or DVD to create a copy on a DVD disk, then click Next.
4. If you are copying the file to a USB flash drive, select your USB device in the dropdown list and click Begin copying. If you are copying the file up to a DVD, click Begin burning.

This is so frustrating but I'm stuck on the very first step. I've bolded my noob problem:

1. Rt click each file, Properties > Unblock>Apply>OK.

That "Unblock" option does not exist when I right-click on these three files. I don't see anything like it. I'm running 32-bit Vista Home and I am the administrator (and only) account.

I'm obviously doing something very simple wrong, here... :o

That's Ok - it is only if it is blocked - just continue.

hi I have successfully done everything except the iso is in a zip file. is it suppose to be like this or did I do something wrong?

I also tried to unzip it to found out that it is the exact similar of everything in the expandedSetup

I think you will find it is an.iso . If you have 7zip program installed, it puts a little icon on - so you might think it is a zip.

It is in fact an .iso

Inside the bootable .iso are the installation files, of course.

If you go to folder options and make sure file extensions are showing - you will see the three letters .iso at the end.

Burn it to dvd with an isoburner.

I followed the instructions described, but the iso i get is 6 gig... not gonna fit on a DVD. any suggestions?

6gb?

It should be around the same as the ExpandedSetup folder.

Have a look at the size of the folder and see if you somehow got one inside the other.

In the folder , you should have these:

http://www.sevenforums.com/attachme...l-expandedsetupcontents-2009-10-22_061340.jpg

If yours is different - you can post a screenshot - if you like.

You may find this is an easier way to make the .iso - won't make a difference to the size - but you may prefer the method:

- Seriously why isn't this at the top of the page? Ok I'm a bit stupid for going through all the steps one by one, but that whole note at the end pretty much says we don't have to do the work around, we can just download it directly now.

It has been posted several times on this thread already.

Not everyone wants to d/l a big .iso if they already have the files.

It only takes a couple of mins. to make the .iso if you have the files.

Also - if you want to create a dvd from which you can install any Edition - you need to make the .iso after doing the edit.

I would like to buy another key for Win7 64 but Digital River only allows one download. They will let me download the 32 bit version, I was wondering if the 32 bit key will allow me to install and activate the 64 bit version. Are the keys specific for each version or are they generic.

I believe the key will work on either version as long as you're only running it on one system (32bit or 64bit). It was confirmed by a poster on this site who attempted both on his laptop.

Yes, Pestul is right - the key is not specific to the bit version.

If you have a "32 bit key" and want to make or d/l the 64 bit .iso - go ahead.

My brother-in-law is trying to get a copy now and they haven't sent him an email for the store (his address was verified). He tried resend 3 times and nothing. Is it just delayed or something? When I got mine on the 22nd it was pretty much instantaneous. I should tell him to call DR support I guess.

EDIT: Yeah, this is not really an appropriate question for this thread, nm.

I tried doing this on Windows XP 32 Bit Home Edition and successfully created the DVD.

After booting from the CD and getting into the installation I got this error.

Install
Windows could not collect information for [OSImage] since the specified image file [install.wim] does not exist.

And could not go any ferther.
As of right now im attempting to create the DVD on another one of my computers running with Vista 32bit

I made the .iso file however it's only 205mb.

Is this right because the original download was 3gb?

Hi,

No, that's too small.

Did you run the .exe you downloaded and get a folder called expandedSetup on your Dektop?

That expandedSetup folder should be about 3.0gb.
