Solved Make sure no wifi signal HOW.

I use no wifi. I don't want to use wifi.
What I want to do is test to make sure I'm not transmitting any wifi signal.
Is their a way I can test no signal is being transmitted even when I have no wifi set up in windows.
My router is a Asus RT-N12.
Both antenna's are remove and tin foil over the connections.

No I'm not crazy.

Well; one would think as long as at least the antennas are removed; you should not be transmitting any wifi signal. Also; one thing you could do is completely reset the router to defaults and then go in and make sure the wifi is not turned on and if it is just turn it off.

It is probably not a good thing to remove the antennas. Perhaps it does not matter since the RF is off, but the circuit should have the proper impedance terminating the cable that leads to the antenna connections.

The antennas (or the correct terminating cap) should help to protect the circuits from electrostatic discharges and EMF (electrical noise).

As far as knowing if some level of Wi-Fi signal is coming thru: ask a visitor that has a Wi-Fi device (phone, tablet, laptop...) to see if they see the signal. If their app shows signal strength, then you might be able to know if a signal is coming from your equipment. It depends on how many other Wi-Fi signals come into your home and how strong they are.

There are plenty of apps that can be installed on phones and laptops to tell you more info about the Wi-Fi in the area, but a visitor might not want to install stuff on their device just for this onetime check.

Somewhere on this forums, an old post talked about this and recommended some software that told you all about the wifi networks in range... If I can find it, I'll post back...

Typically, if one hides there SSID (Turns of broadcast), then some programs can't see the network. Not sure of these programs will detect the presence of a wifi network if you have hidden the ssid. But maybe worth a try?

I like the idea of asking someone with a phone to check if I'm broadcasting wifi.
