Didn't really know where this went, seemed like the best spot.
Two days ago i had the service pack1 update didn't used the computer but for
a little while since then until today.

I was surfing the web for about an hour or so and then went to direct2drive.com
when my whole computer froze, nothing no ctrl alt del. nadda so i hard reset
After the reboot I had no left click on my touch pad after getting it so i could right
click to open files i decided to update touch pad drivers (alps) that made things worse
I lost right click for opening files so i rolled back rebooted and still no right click for opening files only the standard menu options (properties open with Ect) even though in my mouse options in control pannel it still had me click to open with the right
ok well my touch pad has a tap setting that i always had off, turned it on and nope nothing but i can plug a exterior mouse up by usb and it works i dicided to sys restore did twice to two different dates nope didn't help but on the second time i played with mouse settings again and did a reboot hoping it would work on the startup where it ask for my password it would not accept it kept saying invalid although my hint was still the same.
Tried many times to get it to accept it rebooting caps safe mode boot order you name it it just would not accept it. So i went to my desktop and researched how to recovery access since i never made a reset disk came up with away burned the disk came to my laptop
and thought heck lets try one more time and it worked!!!! But still no touch pad
Anyone got any ideas whats going on? Know its long thanks for your help

Restore computer to factory defaults with the built in recovery software (F11 on startup or something like that), and start over?

Yeah, that is a good option. Find the restore point that was created before the SP1 install and set back to that.

I am afraid though that this may not solve your problem. Sp1 has been largely trouble free. But it is worth a shot. You can't loose anything.

Im going to try tonight, aside from my touch pad going bad, what could it be?

And what about the freak password problem?

thanks for advice.
