Hello everyboday,

I have been using TonyEasyCleaner for some time now in order to clean my registry from different errors and trash. Recently I have been using RegCurePro too, with the same purpose of course.

Some ten days ago I performed a deep, thorough cleaning of my registry with the mentioned programs. A few days later I also noticed that some of my programs stopped functioning normally.

After examining the problem I came to conclusion that cleaning of the registry caused my problems.

Have you ever experienced that some programs stopped working after you did registry cleaning?

I don't know what to do now to make my programs work back again. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
The Lord of Rings

Can you check to see if any of these cleaners have backed up the register before they were run & if so you may be able to recover by going back & using one of those back ups.
Generally it is best not to use any of the various register cleaners as they often cause problems & don't really do anything useful & usually cost money to buy.

Thanks for replying.

Yes, I have found the backups, but I can't restore them.

A System Restore, if you have an available restore date that is before using the last cleaner, may get it back.

As noted Registry Cleaners, PC Repair or whatever they want to call them can (and do in many cases) more harm than than they claim to fix or speed up. Most techies consider them "snake oil".

No, unfortunately not. I don't know why, but all restore point are 'too young', so to say. I have been searching for a point that is at least one month old, but the system does not show such points. It only shows the points that were recorded during the last 5 to 6 days

Are there any windows registry experts here? How and what to change in my registry to make my programs work normally again?

Try to import an older registry in Safe Mode. Don't know if it will work but worth trying.

If nothing else works, you may have to reinstall the programs that aren't working properly.

Registry cleaners are like Marmite, some people love them and some people hate them. If you've had a bad experience with them it would be best to give them a miss in future. Personally speaking, i'm not sure either way.

Just had a thought, I would set my optical drive to boot, and try to repair Windows using the W7 dvd or the backup recovery disk.

Another in the long litany we've seen here of Registry Cleaners and Optimizing Suites ruining Win7. It's taking awhile for the word to get around that these are not the slightest needed in Win7, which is already the leanest OS ever and perfectly balanced in almost every way.

If you don't have a System Restore point then I would cut my losses now and do a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 (same for retail) then stick with only the tools and methods in the tutorial to get and keep a perfect install. These are based on what works best in tens of thousands of installs we have helped with here.

Repair install might be better for the OP to try first. Then reinstall his borked programs.

Just to note, I backup up my registry with tweaking.com's free program. I have it scheduled to run everyday. Restores are quick and easy. This program has gotten me out of a few jams in no time flat.

I have AVG's PC Tuneup which was bundled with AVG internet security (4 pc's / 2 years protection). It has been used with XP and W7 without causing any problems, but I must say that I couldn't see any improvement. The AVG is now only used on XP as Microsoft's own av works ok on my W7 and W8 machines.

Why do users keep reaching for these suites which are absolutely unneeded in Win7? Is it because they've not been here with us since before beta and seen Win7 clearly evolve to not need any such tweaking or optimizing beyond normal System settings?

Win7 will always be instantaneous and never hang (what more could one want?) on adequate tested hardware with a perfect install like the one in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7, which compiles the tools and methods that will provide and maintain a perfect install.

Nothing more is needed, anything more is not needed and probably deleterious.

Ironically, even the CCleaner and Boot time defrag are likely not needed but included out of mass habit. They may only be needed for troubleshooting purposes. But I'm not ready to let go of those, even though perpetual threads about them here have always been mixed. Many feel with strong evidence that Win7 can maintain itself.
