MB stuck with norton

hi, i want to buy a gigabyte lga 1155 GA-Z77 UD5H motherboard , only problem is that it comes bundled with norton anti-virus. i am stuck with norton or can get rid of it? thanks

You are not stuck with Norton... just do not install it if you don't want it.

I (and others here) would suggest that you try MSE.

You are not stuck with Norton when you buy motherboard and Norton is bundled. Usually you have to install Norton your self so just don't do it and that's it. I recommend to get drivers from Gigabyte site rather than use ones on cd because there may be updated versions available. so you don't even have to touch any bundled CD/DVD or other things.

Actually Norton (at least new versions) is better than MSE in most things. Norton is faster, has much smaller footprint in memory, and has better detection rate.
There is some bad things about Norton from old versions that was slow and resource hungry but now Norton is reborn.. it was like that for some years now.. but some people still tell story from long time ago, and believe that Norton is terrible.
Downside Norton is not free and after bundled trail period over (90 days I think) you have to pay.. there is some cheap offers (cheaper than official Norton site) you can get Norton antivirus for around 15USD for 1 year or so.
The only other thing that MSE may be better is that it was made by MS so it may have better compatibility with windows.. but this is only speculation.

Not sure how the software is bundled but you can uninstall Norton if needed and you can also use Norton Removal Tool if needed.

Norton is likely on a DVD, bundled with drivers. Download the drivers and any useful utility manually from the manufacturer's site (as they are usually more up to date than the ones on the DVD) and leave the DVD alone in the box.

With all the versions, Norton makes the system highly BSOD prone. In BSOD Help and Support - Windows 7 Help Forums , We have dealt with a really great numbers of BSODs caused by Norton solely.

Solution? Simple. Uninstall Norton and use MSE.
