Solved Media cards not recognized (kinda)

Lately, when I plug in my CF or SD card to the computers media slots, I do not receive the familiar tone and they are not recognized. When looking under "Computer" they are not assigned any drive letter. I have tried numerous cards with the same results. And for the last year everything has worked fine.

However, if I leave the cards in the slots and 'Restart' Windows 7, then both cards are shown available and assigned a drive letter giving me access to all the photos.

So it kinda seems like some missing piece of the puzzle I just can't understand that is causing it to act that way. Anyone have any thoughts as to what I could look for?

PS/ USB flash drives work fine when plugged in, sound tone, get assigned letter.

I think I solved my own problem. I uninstalled the drivers for the media slot then, upon reboot, it was recreated. Now working fine.
