Hello there,

I wanted to get myself a media player for christmas. I was wondering, could I rip dvd onto this media player? Can I view them from any computer connected to my network? Thank you, I am new and wanted some help finding this out and finding a decent media player.

Practically all of your previous posts have remained open waiting for a response from yourself which is a bit disappointing for those members who have tried to help you. Lots of advice has been given but very little taken. I will try to answer this one.
Windows Media Classic is a very good freebie player as is VLC. Google both forethe download. What do you mean "Can you rip dvd onto this media". what exactly do you want to do?

I think you misunderstood what I am asking. I am not asking about a program. What I want to do is setup a system where anyone on my network can access a folder and inside that folder there are files and movies. I thought this was possible with a media player (an actual device not a program) my questions are based on that assumption. Regarding me not answering, I always try to PM the person(s) that help me. I try not to reply to the topic as to not push other people's questions further down.

Problem Solved Button?

I just thought of this, after reading the comments above (I'm not sure where to post this).

Perhaps there should be a "Problem Solved" button, that posters can click on, when their problem has been solved. :geek:

There is a problem solved button. Just Click the red triangle icon at the top of this post and in the message box just type "Resolved" and a mod will give the thread a green tick!

Why not just "share" the folders concerned with "Everyone" on your network and let the default player do the rest?

Yeah, I think that might be a good idea. Let's hope my internet is strong enough. Thanks!

PS: Would it be possible to password protect certain folders with important documents?

You don' in fact need to be online to do what you want. Your local network will work fine through the router without having to be online. Your internet sped will make no difference at all. It's the router that does all the work.
To protect any sensitive folders just don't share them!

Hey,

So I went ahead and shared the entire hard drive.
Thanks!

IMHO That is very unwise and is likely to give you untold problems in the future. I would very quickly make the C drive non share and just share the folder you need and want to share. I would do this before anything else!!!
So far as connecting your Mac is concerned, as I don't use a Mac I have no direct knowledge but I would guess this is what you need:
File sharing between Mac and PC Step 2 - Enabling "Windows file sharing" on the Mac
